Nashville boys, girls win both semifinal games, get title shot

NASHVILLE, Ark.-Both Nashville teams won their semifinal contests and advanced to the title games of the 23rd Annual Nashville Banker's Classic.

Nashville's girls bested Centerpoint, 47-35, Thursday, and Acorn topped Caddo Hills, 51-33, in the other girls semifinal.

The Scrappers routed Foreman, 69-39, in a boys semifinal, and Centerpoint's boys rallied to beat Nevada, 49-43.

In the girls final, the Scrapperettes (13-1) face Acorn at 6 p.m. Saturday, and Nashville (13-2) plays Centerpoint in the 7:30 boys championship game at Scrapper Arena.

 

Girls Division

Nashville 47, Centerpoint 35

The Scrapperettes built a 10-point lead early in the second quarter, and Centerpoint managed to cut it to single digits for a moment in the third quarter.

Asia Munn led Nashville and all scorers with 18 points, and Kendall Kirchhoff hit four 3-pointers and had 16 points.

Jade Vavra also had four 3s for the Lady Knights and finished with 14 points, and Courtney Samuel scored 13 points.

 

Acorn 51,
Caddo Hills 33

The Lady Tigers took an early command of the game with a 19-2 first quarter and then played Caddo Hills on near-even terms the rest of the way.

Faith Hill poured in 16 points for the Lady Tigers, and Tori Barrett added 13.

Rachel Dumont led the Lady Indians with 10 points, and Jordan Powell drained three 3s for her nine.

 

Boys Division

Nashville 69,
Foreman 39

The Scrappers jumped out to double-digit lead in the first quarter and never let off the gas pedal as Nashville cruised into the finals.

The host team was up 24 at halftime (40-16) and 21 entering the fourth quarter.

Darius Hopkins and Dominique Kight scored 12 points each to lead Nashville. Jhalon Finley added 11, Ja-Marta Gilliam had 10 and C.J. Spencer and C.J Adams chipped in with nine apiece.

Tucker Hall led the Gators with 20 points.

 

Centerpoint 49,
Nevada 43

After trailing almost the entire game, the Knights took the lead midway through the final quarter and never relinquished it, sealing the victory from the foul stripe.

Centerpoint converted 19 of 27 charity shots with 12 of 16 of those coming in the fourth, when it went on a 20-8 rally to take the win.

Keenan Owens poured in a game-high 21 points for the Knights, who got scoring from eight different players. Parker Sutton added 13 points.

Brandon Gulley scored 14 to lead the Blue Jays, and Jemarreya Jones contributed 12.
