The Texarkana Independent School District received Texas retirement papers from former athletic director and head football coach Barry Norton on Thursday, which was also his first official day at Arkansas High.
"The vacated position will be put online Friday (today) or Monday," said Tina Veal-Gooch, Executive Director of Public Relations for TISD. "It will be online for ten days.
"We expect to have several quality applicants, with the Superintendent (Paul Norton), members of the school board and maybe individuals named to a search committee trimming down the list. There will be interviews after that."
Paul Norton was not available for
comment Thursday, but it was indicated that there could be in-house interest in the
position.
"We've got several outstanding coaches on staff with a lot of experience," Gooch said. "We'll know more later. Hopefully we will have a new athletic director and football coach in March."
