Three Texas High baseball players have been named first-team to District 16-5A's elite teams, which is dominated by Sulphur Springs and
Hallsville.
Junior Triston McCormick is the league's MVP after an outstanding season in district at pitcher and first
base. McCormick was 4-1 on the mound in league play with a 1.63 ERA. He had 40 strikeouts in 37 innings. He hit .424 with three doubles, three homers and 15 RBIs.
Hallsville senior Dylan Bailey was selected defensive player of district for his play at catcher, throwing out 36 percent of the players trying to steal on him. He had a 1.000 fielding average, while batting .333.
Marshall senior Cameron Haller is the offensive player for district play with a .364 batting average, four doubles, three homers and a .563 on base average.
The Wildcats' other superlative winners include junior Ryan Humphreys, co-pitcher with a 5-1 record and 1.90 ERA and 43 strikeouts. He shared the honor with Bobcat junior Cooper Rawls, who was 6-0 in district with a 1.25 ERA and 48 strikeouts.
Sulphur Springs' Kaden Argenbright is the sophomore honoree for his play at second. He hit .369 with a .505 on base average. Mount Pleasant freshman Kaleb Thompson is the top newcomer after hitting .290.
Scott Mitchell of Hallsville is co-coach of the year with Sulphur Springs' Jerrad Hammick.
Texas High's three first-teamers are senior pitcher Colby Adkins, who was 3-2 in district with a 0.81 ERA and 34 strikeouts; sophomore infielder Jakob Hearne, who hit .406 with four doubles and .472 on base average; and sophomore outfielder Chris Lyles, who hit .378 with two doubles, two triples, seven RBI, 10 runs scored and .452
on base average.
Mount Pleasant's two first-teamers were senior pitcher Hayden McBride and senior infielder Connor Gage.
Two Texas High players were second-team selections. Sophomore pitcher Walker Davis and sophomore outfielder Conner Allred.
MP's second-teamers were pitcher Tyler Nelson, catcher Andrew Matkin and utility player Cayden Hunnicut.
Cole Christen was Texas High's lone player to get honorable mention, while Rigo Zaldivar and Chandler Curry represented MP on that list.
