Redwater wins to take series lead

WHITE OAK, Texas-Keeley Wilbur smacked a sacrifice fly to score Ramzi Smith, who had walked, and the Lady Dragons took a 1-0 lead over White Oak in a Class 3A best-of-3 softball playoff series Friday on the Lady Roughnecks' home field.

Redwater pitcher Bethanee Calicott earned the win and struck out four.

Savannah Corbell singled after Smith walked to move Smith up to third.

Game 2 is at noon today at Redwater High School. A third game, if needed, will be played 30 minutes after Game 2.

 

Rusk 2, Atlanta 1

HALLSVILLE, TexasThe Lady Rabbits lost a heartbreaker to the Lady Eagles 2-1, as the Lady Eagles took a 1-0 lead in a Class 4A best-of-three softball playoff series.

Atlanta led 1-0 before the game was tied, and in the bottom of the sixth inning, Tatum Goff hit a game-winning, solo home run for Rusk.

Caitlin Ballew also had two hits for the Eagles.

Kinsey Kelly drove in the lone run for the Rabbits (14-11) with a single. Game 2 will be played at 1 p.m. today at Hallsville, with a third game, if necessary, to following after a 30-minute recess.
