HAWKS WIN: Pleasant Grove advances after beating Tatum, 21-7

Pleasant Grove defeated Tatum, 21-7, in a Class 4A, Division II bi-district football playoff game at Eagle Stadium Friday.

The Hawks jumped out to a 21-0 lead until Tatum scored with 6:01 left in the second quarter; it would be the only scoring of the game.

"I was really proud of our defense and thought we played a heckuva game," Pleasant Grove head coach Josh Gibson said. "To hold someone to seven points in the playoffs, I'm very happy. Schematically, I give Tatum credit for scheming us well in
the second half."

The Hawks remain undefeated at 11-0 and will face Aubrey in the area round next week. That game is set for 4 p.m. Friday at the Star in Frisco.

Pleasant Grove's defense drove the Eagles back in rushing as Tatum finished with -8 yards on 22 carries. A lot o f negative yardage came on four Hawk sacks.

Senior TJ Cole, who finished with a game-high 90 yards on 16 totes, helped PG total 257 yards of rushing.

Pleasant Grove sophomore quarterback Ben Harmon hit on 3 of 5 passes for 76 yards, while Tatum's Obadiah Jones was 8 of 17 for 88 yards.

The Hawks attempted a 25-yard field goal early in the fourth quarter, but it sailed wide left.

Both defenses did a good job of slowing down the opposition's offense in the second half.

Xavier Benson caught a 33-yard pass from Ben Harmon for PG's first score of the game.

The Hawk defense forced a 3-and-out on the Eagles' first, second, and third possessions.

Chauncey Martin capped a 73-yard, 8-play drive with a 27-yard touchdown run. Martin broke a tackle and bounced outside for the score to put Pleasant Grove up, 14-0.

Cole ran the ball in from 2 yards out, and the Hawks were cruising, 21-0.

Tatum responded its next possession. Quarterback Obadiah Jones found Jamaurie Wilson for a 43-yard passing TD to make it 21-7.

Pleasant Grove had 10, first half first downs compared to the Eagles' four.

Tyler Allen and Caleb Porchia each had a sack for the Hawks in the first half.
