Mustangs defense steps up, blanks Mineola in 27-0 win

HALLSVILLE, Texas-Hughes Springs got big contributions from running back Tradarian Craver and its defense to shut out Mineola on Friday night.

After a scoreless first quarter, Mustangs' Brice Johnston got the team on the board first on a 10-yard touchdown run, which would prove to be the game-winner as Mineola would go scoreless in the contest.

Craver finished with 151 yards rushing and two touchdowns in the win.

Hughes Springs' Chandler King grabbed an interception and Isaiah Bolden recovered a fumble for the defense en route to holding on to their shutout.

 

Maud 56, Meridian 41

FORNEY, Texas-After a back-and-fourth battle throughout the night, it was a strong running attack and a huge fourth quarter that kept Maud alive in the postseason.

The Cardinals scored 29 points in the final frame to beat Meridian.

Quarterback Gage Jones and running back Brooks Minter both went over 200-yard mark in rushing, with Jones leading the way with 222 and Minter close behind with 211. Both scored three touchdowns apiece.

Rayne Bailey also rushed the ball well all night, finishing with 109 yards and a score.

On the defensive side, Cade Townsend came away with three interceptions for the Cardinals.

 

Daingerfield 41, Lone Oak 17

GLADEWATER, Texas-Chris Castleberry rushed for 106 yards, Jakauri Woods scored three times on the ground as Daingerfield advanced to the area round off the Class 3A playoffs with a 41-17 Division II Region II win over Lone Oak at Jack V. Murphy-Bear Stadium.

The Tigers (7-4) will move on to face Gunter or Henrietta next week. Lone Oak ends the year with ha 5-6 record.

Lone Oak took a 3-0 lead midway through the first quarter on a field goal by Ramiro Limon, but the Tigers scored the next 27 points to take control of things.

Reggie Jeter got things started for the Tigers with a 2-yard run at the 2:36 mark of the first quarter, and the Tigers took the lead for good with 2:58 to play in the half on a 13-yard run by Woods.

Timmyon Broner returned an interception 29 yards for a score a minute later, and the Tigers led 20-3 at the half.

Woods' 1-yard run with 5:40 left in the third extended the lead, and after Lone Oak got back on the board with a 9-yard touchdown pass from Quaid Williams to Allen Holley, the Tigers countered with a 30-yard scoring jaunt by Elijah Allen.

Williams' 78-yard scoring toss to Jake Kizer kept it respectable for Lone Oak, but Woods broke off a 45-yard TD run on the final play of the third quarter to cap the scoring.

 

Harmony 42, Paul Pewitt 0

LONGVIEW, TexasThe Eagles used a stifling defense, and a stellar offensive effort to rout Paul Pewitt on Friday night at Pirate Stadium.

Harmony held the Brahamas to 96 total yards, while only allowing 6 first downs, as they absolutely dismantled the Brahamas. The Eagles soared on offense as well, racking up 347 rushing yards and 130 yards passing.

The Eagles took a 21-0 lead to the locker room, before coming out and scoring 14 more points in the third quarter and a single touchdown in the fourth for the final margin of victory.

 

SOUTHWEST ARKANSAS

Scrappers oust Booneville

BOONEVILLE, Ark.-It all came down to the very end.

With three seconds remaining in regulation, Austin Dobbs nailed an 18-yard field goal to give Booneville a thrilling win over Nashville.

Scrapper quarterback Tyler Hanson got things rolling early, hitting Jaylon Finley on a 44-yard score for the game's first touchdown. Hanson finished the night with 185 yards on 15 of 18 passing.

Booneville answered back on the next possession when Brandon Ulmer found the end zone after a 58-yard run.

Trent Harris would finish the first quarter with another Scrapper touchdown on a 2-yard run.

The second quarter, however, would be back-and-fourth defensively, with the only score coming from a 1-yard run by Grand Rodatz that would give Booneville a 21-14 lead going into halftime.

Nashville's Hanson found wideout Domonick Kight on a 51-yard strike to knot the game up at 24, but would score no more througout the game.

 

Osecola 41, Prescott 20

PRESCOTT, Ark.The Seminoles defense came up huge, forcing three turnovers in their victory over Prescott.

The Curley Wolves were beaten handily despite offensively outgaining Osecola, 387-352, in total yardage. The Curley Wolves fumbled three times, however, and the Seminoles recovered each one.

Osecola took an early 6-0 lead, and took a 20-7 lead to the locker room, before outscoring the Curley Wolves 21-13 in the second half for their final margin of victory.

 

Other Scores

Foreman defeated Bearden, 35-18.

Earle defeated Mineral Springs, 46-26.
