Area Football Previews: Foreman at Danville

DANVILLE, Ark.-The Foreman Gators are headed down the road less traveled.

Foreman (10-1) will travel to Danville (11-1) in the Class 2A state quarterfinals.

"We've talked about practicing on Thanksgiving since the day I got here," Foreman head football coach Mark King. "Only good teams are left at this point and our kids have done that. If you want to be one of those teams, you have to put the work in. We're going to enjoy the week."

The Gators have chomped on opponents with their overbearing ground game, led by junior Kyren Batey, senior C.J. Green and
sophomore Issac Carver.

Batey has eclipsed 1,412 yards on 107 touches, Green has garnered 723 yards on 56 carries and Carver has gained 650 yards on 82 totes.

With this being the first meeting between these two schools, Danville will try to slow down the athletic Gator backfield at Little John Field.

"Hopefully, traveling won't be a problem for us," King said. " We plan to split the trip up and go through a walk-through on the way. We've traveled well all season, so I don't see why this will be any different."

The Little Johns have scored 32.1 points per game this season, while the Gators have allowed 11.4 points per game up until this point.

"We're just going to do what we do," King said. "Coach Ivory always has a good plan for our defense and they've played outstanding this year. We plan to get after them like everybody else and hopefully it will work out. We preach 11 guys to the ball and forcing turnovers."

With a win, the Gators will play either Earle or Salem in the state semifinals.

"Hopefully, we'll use our speed to attack their size," King said. "We're going to make them play the whole field and not just stack the box. We reviewed the film from last week, Rison played into their hands. We have the edge game and the triple option. They're huge up front on both sides of the ball, so we have to utilize our speed and take advantage of it when our guys are in space."
