Liberty-Eylau used rallies at the end of the first quarter and early in the third to build a solid lead against New Boston.

The Leopards went on a 20-5 run over the end of the first and start of the second quarters, taking a 30-21 lead into halftime and then extended their advantage in the third quarter to 21 points (50-21) of a 62-44 win Tuesday at the Rader Dome.

New Boston (0-2) held the advantage on the glass, 53-51, and both teams committed 21 turnovers.

The Leopards drained 12 3-pointers-half of those from Kameron Green. Green led four double-digit scorers for Liberty-Eylau (2-1) with 20 points.

"We played some scrap ball to start with, we relied on the 3s, then we weren't blocking out, then we would get the ball and just take off with it, instead of looking up the floor," Leopard coach Stasik Vaughn said. "We missed a lot of open guys tonight. This group has a bunch of scrappers; we don't have a lot of height, but they'll go at you.

"New Boston had the height advantage, so I was pleased with how hard the kids played."

The Lions took an 8-6 lead midway through the first quarter on a 6-point streak.

Howard Barron tied the game on a putback to start a 13-2 rally to close out the last 3:40 of the first. Green had a trio of his 3-pointers, and Deveoncha Meadows added a pair of 3s.

The Leopards went up 26-13 2:48 into the second quarter, but the Lions answered with a 7-point run to cut their deficit to 26-20. L-E led 30-21 at intermission.

"We improved from last week, and I was proud of them because I can see we're going in the right direction," New Boston coach Cedric Dorsey said. "We're starting to get into shape and are attacking the basket more. There are a couple of more things we can still work on, like crashing the boards. We're getting better on areas on defense, but there's still we have to do. We are going in the right direction; I was impressed with what we did today."

With three players hitting treys in the third quarter, Liberty-Eylau opened the second half with a 12-3 streak to go up 42-24. The Leopards built a 50-29 lead entering the fourth quarter, which New Boston won, 15-12.

Meadows added 12 points for the Leopards, Barron had 10 points and nine rebounds, and R'Aikem Harris also scored 10 points. Keanu Daniels also had eight boards.

Deaundre Robinson turned in a double-double for the Lions. Robinson had 17 points and 12 rebounds. Jamin Powell contributed nine rebounds.

Liberty-Eylau won the junior varsity game, 57-26. Elijah Sutton had 20 points for the Leopards, and Oronde Manor added 17. Cameron Smith scored 14 for the Lions.

L-E's freshmen won, 27-18, in overtime. Josh Jenning had nine for the Leopards, and Trey Lewis-Colbert led New Boston with eight points.
