Hawks end Gilmer's home streak, 41-38

GILMER, Texas-Gilmer's 16-year streak is over.

After not dropping a district game at home since 2001, Pleasant Grove defeated the Buckeyes, 41-38, in a game for the ages at Jeff Traylor Stadium in a District 7-4A game.

Gilmer tried to kick a game tying 31-yard field goal with five second left in the fourth quarter, but the kick sailed wide right.

"I am so proud of our program and how we continue to grow," Hawk head coach Josh Gibson said. "There's not a cap on this team, and that one wasn't easy. It is so special to us. I have so much respect for Coach Traylor and what he built here at Gilmer. We beat our idol."

Carson Cox caught a 34-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Ben Harmon for the go ahead score with 36 seconds left in the game for Pleasant Grove.

"The pass call goes to our quarterbacks' coach Riley Fincher," Gibson said. "I try to keep people off balance the whole game. Fincher told me to run a post. Fincher and I are going to Shreveport tomorrow to party."

It was a special performance for the Hawks' offensive line. Behind the line, Chauncey Martin amassed 219 yards on 17 carries, while TJ Cole had 127 yards on 21 totes.
