Pleasant Grove High School has been honored with the Army Values School of the Week award by Dave Campbell's Texas Football, in partnership with the Army, officials announced Tuesday.
The selected schools have best exemplified the seven Army values of loyalty, duty, respect, selfless service, honor, integrity and personal courage.
"It's a huge honor because Dave Campbell's football is like the Bible of football in Texas," Pleasant Grove head coach Josh Gibson said.
"To get the Army team of the week makes me proud for our coaches, kids and our community.
"I was humbled when I found out we won an award. A serviceman from our area called us and told us we had won because of honor and integrity. To get that award,shows how big that win was against Gilmer."
The Hawks ended Gilmer's 16-year home district winning streak with a 41-38 victory Friday.
Ben Harmon connected with Carson Cox for a 34-yard strike in the final minute to regain the lead for PG. A missed potential tying field goal by the Buckeyes gave the Hawks the victory and inside track for the District 7-4A, Division II title.
Each week during the season, one Texas public school in each classification is given the award presented by DCTF/ Army.
Pleasant Grove, a 4A school, will be presented the award at 7:25 p.m. Friday, prior to its homecoming game against the Atlanta Rabbits. Staff Sgt. Joseph Crabtree and Sgt. 1st Class Eldridge Alvey will make the presentation to Gibson.
"It's a prestigious award, so we want to have as many be present as possible (for the presentation)," Alvey said.
The Hawks are undefeated this year, with a 6-0 record and 1-0 in district.
The other six schools recognized in Week 7 are Laredo United South in 6A, Denison in 5A, Friona in 3A, Stamford in 2A, and Aquilla in 1A.
Kickoff is at 7:30 at Hawk Stadium, 5406 McKnight Road in Texarkana.
