AHS duo finish 4th in state tourney

NORTH LITTLE ROCK, Ark.-The Arkansas High girls doubles team of Reese Chesshir and Amy Claire Mugno finished fourth in the 6A state tennis tournament Tuesday, concluding an 18-3 overall record and helping Arkansas High finished tied for fifth in the overall girls team standings.

Chesshir and Mugno lost to Jonesboro, 6-4, 6-1, in the semifinal and dropped the third place match to Mountain Home, 6-4, 6-2.

"Although this was Mugno's and Chesshir's first season to play doubles together, it was a very successful season," AHS coach Mason McCloud said. "Congratulations to them on a great season."

The AHS girls duo won the 6A West Conference Championship and were fourth place at the 6A state, earning them All-State honors.

 

Tigers sweep, advance to area

Texas High remained unbeaten on the fall season and swept Forney, 19-0, in the Region II bi-district team tennis tournament at the John Watson Tennis Complex.

The Tigers advance to the area round Thursday against Frisco Liberty in Sulphur Springs.

Volleyball

Lady Tigers sweep Marshall

MARSHALL, Texas-Olivia Lower and Treyaunna Rush each had 10 kills to help power Texas High over Marshall, 25-13, 25-17, 25-17, at Maverick Gym.

Lower also had three blocks and nine service points, and Rush added 15 assists and nine points. Kaitlyn Cross led the Lady Tigers (24-9, 8-2) at the service line with 18 winners, and Mia Wilson served 16 points.

Texas High won the junior varsity match, 19-25, 25-15, 25-18, with Simaya White serving 22 points.

Marshall won the 9th grade match, 25-4, 25-22. Mariza Perez served seven for THS.
