Pewitt wins in overtime against Ore City

ORE CITY, Texas-It took overtime to decide a winner in a back-and-fourth game against Paul Pewitt and Ore City at Rebel Stadium.

It was the Brahmas, however, that escaped with the District 7-3A, Division II opening victory with a 35-34 win.

Lucas Hungerford emerged the hero, as he accounted for every score for Pewitt.

The quarterback threw for two touchdowns and rushed in another three-with the addition of a two-point conversion run in the fourth quarter-and finished the night on 10 of 13 passing for 112 yards and 156 yards rushing on 22 attempts.

Jackson Fitts caught both of Hungerford's touchdown passes.

The Brahmas finished with 273 yards rushing on 43 tries.

Paul Pewitt (3-2, 1-0) will host Daingerfield next Friday.

 

Hughes Springs 57, Garrison 29

GARRISON, Texas-Tradarian Craver totaled 210 yards on 27 carries and had four touchdowns as Hughes Springs rolled past Garrison.

Craver scored from 8, 3, 1, and 33 yards out for the Mustangs, who are undefeated at 5-0.

Ty Menefee, who finished with 122 yards rushing on just 10 carries, caught a 20-yard pass from Andrew Gaul for Hughes Springs' third TD of the game.

Brice Johnston had a 35-yard pick six for the Mustangs, and, after Craver's 1-yard TD run, Menefee ran the ball in from 25 yards out.

Craver scored a 33-yarder, and Trayvon Kennedy had a 35-yard touchdown run for the Mustangs' last score.

 

Linden-Kildare 39, Maud 21

LINDEN, Texas-Ladavian Johnson rushed for 142 yards and two touchdowns as Linden-Kildare cruised past Maud at Jack Hetherington Tiger Stadium.

Quarterback Marty Johnson proved to be a playmaker also, scoring through the air, on the ground and even caught a touchdown reception. He finished the night with 106 yards on 8 of 13 passing, while rushing for 36, and his lone reception for another 19 yards for his three TDs.

Marty Johnson was responsible for all of the Tigers' first-half points.

The QB found receiver Ja'Kevian Rose for a 20-yard pass in the first quarter, and in the second quarter ran for a 30-yarder and caught the third with a pass from Jacob Owen to give L-K its 20-0 halftime lead.

Maud failed to put any points on the board until the fourth quarter when RJ Bailey rushed into the endzone on a 20-yard play. Later in the fourth, Brooks Minter scored the second TD with a 17-yard run, Ladavian Johnson a 39-yard run and Minter finished it off with a two-yard run.

Minter finished the game with 149 yards on the ground on 29 attempts for the Cardinals.

Linden Kildare (5-0) has a bye next Friday before it opens district play at home against Honey Grove on Oct. 13, as Maud (1-4) will welcome Grapeland.

 

Redwater 39, Emory Rains 28

REDWATER, Texas-Lavondrick Vaughn had touchdowns runs of 16, 46, and 23 yards as Redwater rolled past Emory Rains and won its Homecoming game.

The Dragons trailed the Wildcats, 28-20, after the first half, but shut the Wildcats out in the second half, 19-0.

Peyton Davis had a 1-yard TD run for Redwater, Jonah Ketchum scored from three yards out, and Austin Warlick scored a 5-yarder.
