Liberty-Eylau goes unbeaten in Redwater tourney to claim title

REDWATER, Texas-It was bada bing, bada big boom for Liberty-Eylau.

Daycoria Meadows punched down eight kills, and Tamara Norris added seven as the Lady Leopards swept Chapel Hill, 25-17, 25-23, in the championship match of the Redwater Spikers volleyball tournament on Saturday.

"Our hitters hit hard," Liberty-Eylau head coach Kaylee Dalby said. "I told the back line to keep feeding them and that's exactly what they did."

The Leopards won all of their matches throughout the tournament as they went 5-0.

"Winning this tournament is one of the best feelings that I've had," Dalby said. "I have been an assistant coach for a few years, but being a new head coach and taking over these athletes has been great. They kept pushing, worked hard, and we came out on top."

Kayla Norris and Skylier Bailey each had eight service points for Liberty-Eylau.

The first set featured nine ties at 1, 2, 3, 5, 7, 8, 10, 11, and 12-all. Once the Leopards took a 13-12 lead on a winner by Bryana Block, they never trailed again. With Kayla Norris serving at 19-15, Meadows put down a pair of kills and Chapel Hill committed three hitting errors to extend L-E's lead
to nine points.

Keeley Norris sent a kill down the left baseline for the set clincher.

Set two featured 10 ties at 1, 3, 4, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 22, and 23-all. It was a back-and-forth affair with the Leopards going up as many as six points at 14-8.

But the Lady Red Devils rallied back in sections as they scored three straight and, a little later, four consecutive to knot the set at 15-all.

Bailey took the serve at 23-all and Chapel Hill had a hitting error to make it 24-23. After a Red Devils' timeout, Tamara Norris hit the match winner, a tip that proved too tough of an angle for Chapel Hill to handle, to seal the championship.

Karley Morrow slapped in 10 service points, and Redwater earned third place with a 25-20, 25-13 sweep over Columbia Christian Academy. Bella Fernandez contributed eight service points for the host Lady Dragons.
