Porchia named top defender

BRYAN, Texas-Pleasant Grove senior linebacker Caleb Porchia was named Defensive Player of the Year on the 67th Annual Collin Street Bakery/Texas Sports Writers Association's Class 4A all-state football team.

Porchia made a school-record 196 tackles to help Pleasant Grove win the Division II title and was joined by seven other teammates.

Hawks' head coach Jason Gibson was named Coach of the Year, and Liberty-Eylau had one selection, giving the area ten selections.

Keaontay Ingram, a running back from Carthage, was named Offensive Player of the Year.    Ingram rushed for 2,325 yards and 37 touchdowns to lead unbeaten Carthage to the Division I state title.

Pleasant Grove's Nick Gavriel was selected to the all-state first team at tackle. TJ Cole was chosen first team at full back.

The Hawks had three players named to the second team. Xavier Benson was honored as a tight end, Austin Toler was chosen as a defensive lineman, and Cameron Wells at defensive back.

Pleasant Grove place kicker Dillon Williams along with defensive lineman Landon Jackson were selected to the third team.

Liberty-Eylau's Kylar Cooks was named to the third team as a tackle.

The 4A honorable mention list for L-E included receiver Mahleik Darty, Decorian Phillips at quarterback, Kentrell Chatmon at defensive back. The selection for the Hawks was Carson Cox at receiver.
