Lady Tigers upend teams

MOUNT PLEASANT, Texas-Texas High participated in the Sulphur Springs Tournament on Friday and came away with two wins.

In Game 1 the Lady Tigers triumphed 7-0 over Mount Vernon. They toppled Pleasant Grove, 8-2, in the second game. The contests, which originally was to be hosted in Sulphur Springs, was moved to Mount Pleasant due to rain.

Mary Smith threw a no-hitter and 10 strikeouts in the first game and was Texas High's winning pitcher for both games. Kylee Spriggs played her complement. Smith increased her record to 4-0.

Korie Hamilton hit the only home run for the Tigers, a solo inside the park in the fifth inning. Ashley Wyrick and Bailey Groom had a hit apiece in the opener, and Smith added a double.

Mount Vernon's pitcher was Macy Deleon; Heather Robertson served as catcher.

In Game 2, Texas High got on the board first with one run in the opening frame and another in the second.

Pleasant Grove scored both of its runs in the third inning. However, the Hawks' progress was overshadowed by the Tigers, who brought in six runs in the same inning to bring the score to 8-2. The contest went on run-less from there til time expired.

Texas High's leading hitters for the second game were Lindsey Edggar with a single, a double and two RBIs; Kaityln Cross and Ryan Williams with two singles and an RBI each; and Groom with a double and two RBIs.

Hannah Snyder was leading hitter for the Lady Hawks with a single and two RBI.
