Lady Hawks beat Pitt by 22 to remain unbeaten in district play

Pleasant Grove 66, Pittsburg 44

PITTSBURG, Texas-Pleasant Grove's varsity girls basketball squad had four players in double-figures and coasted past Pittsburg, 66-44, to improve to 3-0 in district play on Saturday.

Madeline Haak led the Lady Hawks with 22 points and 14 rebounds for a double-double, and teammates Sha'Nequa Henry added 16, Monique Walker scored 15 and Ashanti Levingston finished with 10.

Pitt's Astella Miles scored a team-high 13 points and Sydney Reynolds and Heidi Hemmingsen ended with 11 apiece.

Pleasant Grove also won the junior varsity game, defeating the Lady Pirates, 63-27, with Phoebe Robertson scoring a game-high 17 points and Abbie Flournoy adding 10.

Genoa Central 48, Mena 38

MENA, Ark.-Mena had no answers for Victoria Hill as Genoa Central got hot late in the fourth quarter to take the win.

Hill scorched the nets for a game-high 26 points for the Lady Dragons and teammate Alyssa Jackson had a double-double with 14 points and 15 rebounds.

Mena's Sara Evans finished with 20 points.

Paul Pewitt 50, Daingerfield 38

OMAHA-NAPLES, Texas-After coming out to a slow start in the first quarter, Daingerfield rebounded and got as close as two points in the second half but couldn't pull off their rally against Linden-Kildare.

The Lady Brahmas outscored Daingerfield, 19-7, but the Lady Tigers came out strong in the second to erase some of the deficit. The second half was closely contested.

Mikayla Roberson led the Lady Tigers with 15 points.

Daingerfield (8-13, 3-4) will host New Boston on Tuesday.

Mount Pleasant 0

HALLSVILLE, Texas-Haley Hearn and Grace Pickleman led Pleasant Grove's defense as the Lady Hawks shut out Mount Pleasant on Saturday in the Hallsville Tournament.

Delia Tuttlebee kicked in the game's only goal for the Lady Hawks, which was assisted by Katie Hutcheson.

Pleasant Grove will be back in action on Friday when it travels to Greenville.

 

Subvarsity

TMS boys win invitational

IDABEL, Okla.-Texas Middle School's eighth-graders won the Idabel Invitational on Saturday to remain unbeaten on the season.

Tae-shon Richardson scored a game-high 11 points for the young Tigers in the championship game as they eked out a 40-39 victory over Paris. Teammate Michael Thomas added nine points, while Jayden Godwin and Javarus Tyson each finished with eight.

In the semifinal, TMS cruised past host Idabel, 49-35, with Godwin finishing with nine points and Braxton White adding eight.

Texas Middle School (13-0, 5-0) will be on the road Thursday when it faces Marshall in district play.

 

TMS girls win tourney

SHREVEPORT, La.-Texas Middle School's 8th girls 'A' team defeated Walnut Hill, 19-9, in the championship game to claim a Shreveport tournament at Linwood Charter School.

Jaylen Golette and Jaycee Kennedy each scored five points to lead the Lady Tigers in the title game.

The 8th grade 'A' team got things rolling earlier in the day when it posted a commanding 36-4 victory over Magnolia. Jaylen Henderson led all scorers with eight points.

Texas Middle School's 7th grade team also won its first game of the day, defeating Ridgewood, 23-4, to set up a showdown against TMS' 8th grade team. Delana Augustus scored seven points in the Lady Tigers' win.

Emma Prince led the 8th grade team past the seventh-graders as she scored 10 points in their 26-16 victory.

Ashanti Northcross, Jaycee Kennedy and Braveon Hunt were selected to the all-tournament team, with Northcross also taking the tournament MVP honor.

 

Genoa Central wins four

ARKADELPHIA, Ark.-Genoa Central's seventh-graders won all four games of their Arkadelphia Jamboree, with three of the games being blowout wins.

The Lady Dragons took down Hope, 21-7, with Gracie Fowler and Hollyn Brown each scoring six points for Genoa Central.

GC downed Gurdon, 20-4, in its second game, and Kaylee Sullivan finished with six points.

Gracie Fowler powered the Lady Dragons past host Arkadelphia, scoring nine points.

Genoa Central finished the day off with another win over Arkadelphia, winning, 20-3, with Kylie Russell scoring a game-high six points.
