Down but not out.

Pleasant Grove found itself in an early deficit but battled back to take a convincing 12-4 win over Foreman on Monday at Lady Hawk Field.

Behind 2-0 in the third inning, Faith Dossey drew a walk and Hanna Snyder got on with a single before left-hander Kaylee Kelley blasted a shot over the Lady Gators left fielder Sadie Staggs' head for a lead-taking, inside-the-park home run to get the Lady Hawks ahead 3-2. PG never trailed again.

Kelley finished the night with four RBIs on 3-of-4 hitting, which included a double.

Pleasant Grove's Maddie Horn got the win on the mound. The junior hurler fanned seven Gators en route to pitching a complete game.

"Maddie gave up some hits early, but she kept her cool," Pleasant Grove coach Becca Colloms said. "She kept positive and kept the energy up all night, and other players fed off of that. She never quit."

The Lady Hawks finished the night off strong, scoring seven runs in the sixth.

Kelley belted a double to bring in Madison Allen, who was hit by a pitch, and Horn then brought Kelley home with an RBI single to right field. Zoe Smith then delivered a single, and Bre Jones cleared the bases with a two-run triple.

Foreman scored the game's first run in the second inning when two wild pitches let Rebecca Webb cross the plate. Webb got on earlier when she was hit by a pitch and advanced to second base later with a sacrifice fly from Raichel Frye.

The Lady Gators would put another run on the board in the third frame as Horn again hit Grace Gwinn. The shortstop took second on a wild pitch and later stole third before coming home on Kenzie Cowan's single.

After Pleasant Grove took the 3-2 lead in the third, the Lady Gators would score one more in the fourth to tie it up.

But that was it until the final frame.

Kelley brought Snyder, who reached base on an error, home again in the fifth with a single.

Cowan finished 2 for 3, with two singles for the Lady Gators.

"This was a great win for us going into district play," Collom said. "We have a lot of energy with North Lamar coming up next, and we will try to carry this momentum into that game."

Pleasant Grove (4-9-1) will host North Lamar on Friday in its district opener. First pitch is slated for 6 p.m.
