A team is hard to beat when they execute in all phases of the game.
Mabry Smith threw seven innings of shutout softball and belted a home run as Texas High shut out Mount Pleasant, 6-0, at Lady Tiger Field on Friday.
"This was Mabry's best game of the year," Texas High head coach Robbie Hatfield said. "She has been working hard to get back in her groove because she can be dominant when she hits her spots. She threw a good rise ball, and I don't care how good a hitter you are, that kind of pitch is hard to hit.
"Our catcher did a great job and our infield and outfield made some plays. We beat a good team tonight, but every Tuesday and Friday we have to been ready because teams are tough. Tonight was a good complete game so I am really proud of the girls."
Smith struck out 15, walked one, and allowed just six hits for the host Tigers. She also went 2 for 3 from the plate with 4 RBIs, including a 2-run round tripper in the first inning.
Texas High padded its lead in the second. Ryann Williams hit a blooper into left center and took second base on a passed ball. With two outs, Korie Hamilton laced in a single to left center as Williams scored to make it 3-0.
Ashlee Wyrick hit an RBI to left center to score Lindsey Egger in the fourth, who had reached on an error, to make it 4-0. Smith smacked a 2-run double to left field as Hamilton, who walked, and Wyrick scored.
Texas High (10-5, 3-2) plays at Greenville at 7 p.m. on Tuesday.
