Texas High boys rally

Texas High scored eight unanswered runs behind reliever Logan Arndt to rally past Mount Pleasant.

THS scored four in the fourth, two in the fifth and another pair in the sixth, and Arndt pitched four innings of shutout ball, giving up just two hits, to earn the pitching win during a 9-4 Texas High victory over the visiting Tigers.

Arndt, who walked none and struck out none, needed just 36 pitches in relief of Cameron Radney, who threw 63 pitches in 3-plus innings. Radney had two strikeouts and four walks.

Down 4-1 through 3 1-2 innings, Texas High knocked MP starter Noah Bristow from the mound in the fourth inning.

Cole Christen singled to right field to start the inning for THS, And Caden Dickson drilled a stand-up double inside the bag at third. Rian Cellers' grounder to second plated Christen but was mishandled for an error, leaving runners on the corners.

A wild pitch sent Dickson home, making it 4-3, and Cellers to second. Jakob Hearne and Conner Allred each had an RBI single in the inning to give the Tigers a 5-4 lead.

Chris Lyles' RBI double with two outs came after a throwing error, which allowed a run to score, on a pickoff attempt by Mount Pleasant in the fifth, and Christen followed Allred's single and Dakota Turner's ground rule double in the sixth with a line-drive single to right-center field for the final Texas High runs.

Christen walked with one out in the second inning for the home team. Dickson singled to center field, and Cellers' infield single loaded the bases.

Adam Quinn's sacrifice fly to center field scored the first run of the game for Texas High.

Mount Pleasant broke through in the third inning.

Juan Ottino, who ripped a stand-up triple in the first inning but was stranded there, led off the third with a single to shallow center and stole second base. Bristow's single put runners at the corners, and a fielder's choice tied the score.

Peter Noah doubled in another run for MP, and Logan Dunn singled in another run. Texas High left fielder Quinn threw a strike to catcher Dickson on Dunn's single in time to nail Noah, attempting to score on the play, to end the inning.

Colby Hunnicutt grounded a single to right field to lead off the top of the fourth for Mount Pleasant. Caleb Thompson and Ottino followed with hits, and Hunnicutt scored on a sac fly. A 6-4-3 double play got Texas High out of the inning without any more damage.

Christen was 2 for 3 with 2 RBI, Dickson and Lyles were both 2 for 3 with a double, Lyles adding an RBI, and Allred was 2 for 4.
