LAST ROUND: Hughes Springs knocked out Mount Vernon, 9-2, and New Diana run ruled Sabine twice, 15-3, 10-0.

AT STAKE: Class 3A area championship.

LINEUP: P-not available, C-Cooper Perry, 1B-Harrison Reagan, 2B-Austin Bruce, 3B-Bo McEntire, SS-Alex Bruce or Riley McKinney, LF-Triston Hickey, CF-Brady McEntire, RF-Andrew Gaul, DH-Garrett Golden.

COACH'S COMMENTS: Hughes Springs' Brandon Green-"New Diana is by far the best baseball team that we have played all year. They have some kids that can go. Their pitcher has a great arm and can throw 90 miles per hour. Coach Martinez does a good job with them. It should be a good series.

"We have been telling our kids that we have to find ways to score runs. We have to execute at the plate and play good defense. We have been working with our pitchers all week. If we take care of business in the three aspects of the game, we have just a good of a chance as they do."

NEXT ROUND: The winner advances to the regional quarterfinals to play either Queen City or White Oak.

NEW BOSTON
vs.BECKVILLE

SITE, TIME: Best-of-three series, Game 1 is at 7 p.m. today at Harleton High School, Game 2 is at 2:30 on Saturday back at Harleton with a Game 3, if needed, to follow.

LAST ROUND: New Boston swept Paris Chisum, 12-2, 4-3, and Beckville swept West Rusk, 16-2, 18-2.

AT STAKE: Class 3A area championship.

LINEUP: P-Jake Bobbitt, C-Brian Reid, 1B-Bryce Green, 2B-Branson Wilson, 3B-Stone Williams, SS-Tyler Strain, LF-Isaac Whittington, CF-Kyle Atkinson, RF-Brody Chitwood.

COACH'S COMMENTS: New Boston's Jordan Knight-"Beckville is ranked third in the state, and they lost in the semifinals last year. They have many starters returning, have solid pitching and can hit up and down the lineup.

"We are going to have to throw our off speed pitches for strikes to keep them off balance. We will have to come up with timely hits and find any way possible to get on base. I thought we played extremely well against Chisum. We came out and made a statement. We ran the bases well, we hit, and our pitching was good. In the second game, they threw their best pitcher, and we overcame adversity. We have a lot of confidence right now and are excited to play. Hopefully we can pull off the upset and keep this thing rolling."

NEXT ROUND: The winner advances to the regional quarterfinals to play either Harmony or Prairiland.

QUEEN CITY

AT STAKE: Class 3A area championship.

LAST ROUND: Queen City defeated Winnsboro, 0-1, 4-3, 3-2, and White Oak defeated Troup, 9-5, 5-4.

LINEUP: P-Josue Rea, C-Kade Brooks, 1B-Jordan Wiley, 2B-Jordan Maxwell, 3B-Dylan Scott, SS-Bradley Norton, LF-Easton Fincher, CF-Nate Burden, RF-Hunter Fitts.

COACH'S COMMENTS: Queen City's David Kennedy-"They have some really good pitchers from what I've been told. White Oak placed second in their district and it's a really tough district that they're in. Last weekend, we probably played some of the best baseball we've played all season. If we show up clicking on all cylinders, we should be able to advance. You never know with high school baseball game though."

"We're not changing anything within our lineup. Right now, we pretty much have everyone back from injury and we plan to keep the same approach. We're not a team that's trying to bang walls and hit dingers, we're going to try to get on base and have quality at-bats. Hopefully, with enough quality at-bats, we will be able to score a few runs."

NEXT ROUND: The winner advances to face either Hughes Springs or New Diana in the regional quarterfinals.

LINDEN-KILDARE
vs. KERENS

SITE, TIME: Best-of-three series, Game 1 is at 6 p.m. today at Henderson High School, Game 2 is at 3 p.m. on Saturday at Jacksonville High School with a Game 3, if needed, to follow.

AT STAKE: Class 2A area championship.

LAST ROUND: Linden-Kildare run-ruled Campbell in a single-game elimination, 20-0.

LINEUP: P-Trent Wert, C-Traccer Henry, 1B-Loy Taylor, 2B-Deuce Schuler, 3B-Nic Kunze, SS-Dalton Alford, LF-Caleb Cunningham, CF-Marty Johnson, RF-Jacob Owen.

COACH'S COMMENTS: Linden-Kildare's John Roberts-"We're still debating if we're going to make any changes or not. Offensively, we pretty much have our identity and that won't change a bunch. Defensively, we may change a few alignments based on what we know about a few of their hitters. What it boils down to is our pitchers hitting their spots or none of that stuff matters anyways."

"Well, the biggest thing about this week is that we have more games to play. Last week, it was a one-game series and we had no room for any mistakes. Not that we have any room for mistakes, but we know we will have another game if something happens in the first game. It allows you to make pitching and substitution changes that you wouldn't normally make with just one game."

NEXT ROUND: The winner advances to face either Carlisle or James Bowie in the regional quaterfinals.

JAMES BOWIE
vs. CARLISLE

SITE, TIME: Single-elimination game today at Marshall High School, beginning at 6 p.m.

AT STAKE: Class 2A area championship.

LAST ROUND: James Bowie run-ruled Cumby in a one-game playoff, 19-1, and Carlisle defeated Cross Roads, 9-0.

LINEUP: P-Bailey Obenoskey, C-Noah Woodruff, 1B-Whitt Rogers, 2B-Culen McIntosh, 3B-Wyatt Morton, SS-Evan Barron, LF-Johnathan Cody, CF-Dalton McBride, RF-Evan Williams.

COACH'S COMMENTS: Jame Bowie's Kary Sears-"I believe we have beaten them the past two years, so there will be some bad blood there. This is a big game for us but as long as we execute our gameplan, we should be in good shape. These are two evenly matched teams, so it's going to come down to who makes the least mistakes down the stretch."

NEXT ROUND: The winner advances to the regional quarterfinals to play either Linden-Kildare or
Kerens.
