Beckville rolls New Boston, 6-1

HARLETON, Texas-Beckville rolled New Boston 6-1 Friday night in a class 3A region II playoff game Friday Night in Harlelton.

"We knew it would be an adjustment for us but we'll be fine," said Lions Head coach Jordan Knight. "We'll come out tomorrow and we'll compete really hard."

Tray Lindsay led the Bearcats (26-2) from the mound, threw 82 pitches, including 12 strike outs, and allowed only five Lion hits. Lindsay threw three-up-three-down in five of the seven innings he pitched.

"Obviously, we know we need to eliminate the strikeouts," said coach Knight. "But we also knew coming into this series that Beckville has a really good program and they've got guys that can pitch.

In the third inning, costly errors gave Beckville an additional three unearned runs to extend its lead to 6-1 snuffing out New Boston's (16-9) come-back aspirations.

Lindsey opened the game with a single to left field and two stolen basses at his first at bat. Ben Bridges hit a single to right to score Lindsay and advance Michael Miza who got on base via walk. Ty Jones followed with a huge double down the middle to bring Miza and Bridges home. Jones had the only double of contest and was the only player to bat in more than one player.

The Lion's first run came in the third inning, a single to left field by Isaac Whittington.

New Boston's only run came in the top of the fourth frame when Branson Wilson hit a single to the right field to bring Jake Bobbitt home.

Tyler Strain, Bryce Green, Bobbitt, Wilson, and Whittington each had one single for New Boston.

Jake Bobbitt managed the mound for most of the contest for the Lions, thowing 104 pitches, including five strikeouts, and allowed seven Bearcat hits.

Lindsay, Miza, Bridges, Ethan Harris, Jones, and Clayton Burnett a single apiece for the Beckville.

"We have been a team that has been really good with our backs against the wall most of the year," said coach Knight. "We are use to having to fight and compete. That's what we are. We're not a bunch of pretty boys; we're a bunch of grinders and an bunch of fighters. I like our chances."
