Spring Hill ousted by Parkers Chapel

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark.-Spring Hill picked a bad time to play its worst game of the year.

Parkers Chapel took advantage of five errors by the Bears and rode it to a 10-0, run-rule victory on Saturday afternoon at the University of Arkansas' Baum Stadium.

"We didn't play very well and Parkers Chapel just executed," Spring Hill coach James Brown said. "It's not the way we play baseball but in a 7-inning game, anything can happen."

Parkers Chapel ended things prematurely when Trace Shoup hit a line shot to left field that was misplayed and rolled all the way to the wall, allowing him to score via a three-base error and reach the 10-run threshold.

The Bears (26-4) only managed three hits against Reece Griffin, who only walked one and struck out four, throwing 75 pitches.

Parkers Chapel got off to a blistering start thanks to some misfortune for the Bears, who committed two errors that allowed them to score both of their runs.

The Trojans added three more runs in the third before the 5-run explosion in the sixth that sealed the deal.

Spring Hill pitcher Kaleb Blair lasted five innings, giving up five runs on eight hits (three earned), striking out four and walking none.

Wesley Featherston relieved him and was where all of the damage in that sixth inning occurred, with none of the runs being earned.

"It was a phenomenal season and the seniors really led us and we've had the best season that Spring Hill has ever had," Brown said. "Unfortunately it just didn't end the way we wanted it to."

Brown has actually coached his final game with the Bears, as he has moved out of the area and taken the head coaching position with Cutter Morning Star.

"They're returning a lot of kids that can play baseball," Brown said. "They only have four starting seniors they're losing off this team and they've got a lot of young kids coming up with a lot of potential."

Carson Worthey took home Most Valuable Player honors for Parkers Chapel.
