After a slow start, the Texas High Lady Tigers got it together and went on to an 80-71 victory over Liberty-Eylau in basketball action Friday at the Rader Dome.

Texas High (1-1) had a well-balanced attack with nine players in the scoring column, led by Kerrighan Dunn with 22 points and Kiosyia Morrison with 15.

Eliyah Howard paced the Lady Leopards (2-1) with 24 points, which included four 3-point shots.

Also scoring in double figures were Skyler Bailey with 18 and Daycoria Meadows with 14.

Both teams will be in action Monday with Texas High hosting Pleasant Grove beginning at 4:30 p.m. with the freshman game, while Liberty-Eylau hosts Sulphur Springs beginning at 1 p.m. with the freshman contest.

"We need to get better on the boards, but overall we did a good job," said THS coach Shonda Wilson. "We also had too many turnovers."

L-E coach Aquanetta Watson said her team "did a pretty good job, but we had too many bad spots. We played a lot harder, but we started playing at their fast pace."

Liberty-Eylau scored the first seven points in less than 1 1/2 minutes, which included a 3-pointer by Howard.

After trailing 10-2, the Tigers scored five straight to pulled within 10-7 and soon tied the contest at 11-11 with 1:40 left in the first quarter.

The visitors pulled ahead, 13-12, on a field goal by Dunn, and led 19-15 at the end of the period.

L-E grabbed the lead, 28-26, at the 3:30 mark before Texas High scored scored seven straight for a 33-28 advantage, and led at halftime, 39-30.

Howard kept L-E in contention with 11 points in the second quarter.

The Tigers maintained a 9-14 lead throughout most of the third period, and took a 60-46 lead into the final quarter.

Texas High still had a big lead, 77-63, before L-E reeled off eight straight to draw within, 77-71, but less than a minute remained in the contest.

Bailey led the rally with 12 points in the fourth quarter.
