LATE SPORTS: Hornets sting Lions, 14-6

NEW BOSTON, Texas-Hooks used two second-half touchdowns to defeat rival New Boston, 14-6, in a District 7-3A, Division I football game Friday night at Lion Stadium.

The Hornets (4-2, 2-0) trailed 6-0 at halftime before scoring a touchdown in the third and fourth quarters. The host Lions fall to 0-7, 0-3.

New Boston went up 6-0 in the opening quarter on Kevon Thompson's 2-yard touchdown run. The 2-point conversion run was stopped short.

Hooks went ahead with seven seconds left in the third quarter when Marc Reiter hauled in a 17-yard scoring strike from Connor Price. Reiter kicked the go-ahead extra point for a 7-6 lead.

Mason Vasquez sealed the win with a 4-yard touchdown run with 5:27 left in the game. Reiter's PAT kick made the final score 14-6.

The Hornets finished with 365 yards total offense while the Lions had 193. Hooks also recovered two fumbles while New Boston recovered one.

 

Golf

Tigers in 13th after one round

Texas High's boys golf team is in 13th place after posting a team score of 321 after the first round of the Tiger Classic at Texarkana Country Club.

Will Patterson and Carter Maneth each carded a 76 for Texas High.

Other Tiger scores were Jack Wilson with an 85, Camden Robertson with an 86, and Nick Kane with a 90.
