Genoa Central girls, boys win conference championship

GENOA, Ark.-Genoa Centrals' girls, who finished with just 15 points, and boys, who totaled 27 points, won the Conference 7-3A cross country championship on Saturday.

Janie Bentley took home first with a 22:20, while teammate DonnaJo Rowe was second with a 23:58 for the Lady Dragons.

Genoa Central's girls swept all of the points, as they finished all in the top seven. Carlie Teague was third, Faith Green finished fourth, Macie Sims was fifth, Maddie Sims was sixth, and Sky Byrd was seventh.

Dalton Jones won the race for the Dragons with a 17:30.

Caedmon Kyles was third (18:56), and Carson Bush placed sixth (20:43) for Genoa Central.

Savannah Williams took first in the junior varsity race for the Lady Dragons, who won the competition. Teammate Callie Fike was second, and Braylee Bryant was third.

Preston Riley crossed the line in fourth place for Genoa Central's boys, who finished third in the team race behind Centerpoint and Bismarck.

 

Tennis

Hawks fall to Alvarado in area playoff

SULPHUR SPRINGS, Texas-Pleasant Grove's district championship tennis team faced Alvarado in the area playoff round.

The Hawks were edged in a hard-fought battle, 10-7.
