HOOKS, Texas-It took less than three minutes for Hooks to score the only points it needed as the Hornets ran away with a 40-0 victory over Queen City on Friday night in a non-district contest at their Homecoming game at Hornets Stadium.
Hooks (1-2) took the opening kickoff and marched 57 yards in eight plays.
Mason Vasquez set up the touchdown with a 16-yard run up the middle and then carried it in from a yard out.
The Hornets scored quickly again on their next possession, driving 70 yards on just five plays.
Quarterback Conner Price set up the touchdown with a 48-yard sprint down the left sideline to the 10-yard line. Vasquez scored on the next play for a 13-0 advantage.
The Hornets weren't through in the first quarter as Jack Dedner scored on a 14-yard run with just 58 seconds left in the opening period for a 20-0 advantage.
Marquiz Estell stretched the Hornets' lead to 26-0 at halftime after hauling in a 15-yard pass from Price midway in the second period.
Hooks had 212 yards rushing in the first half, with Vasquez leading the way with 82 yards on nine carries.
Vasquez added another touchdown in the third quarter on a 5-yard run, and finished with 153 yards on 16 attempts.
Queen City started off the second half on a bad note when it fumbled the kickoff and Hooks recovered at the Bulldogs' 36-yard line.
The Bulldogs' defense stopped the Hornets at the 24-yard line.
Queen City advanced the ball to near midfield, and after a punt and two Hooks' penalties, the Hornets started from their 10-yard line.
On the third play, Price tossed a screen pass to Dedner and the senior running back dashed 60 yards to the 15-yard line.
Two plays later, Vasquez scored on the 5-yard run to increase the lead to 33-0 with 4:03 left in the third quarter.
Logan Murray closed out the Hornets scoring with a 15-yard run in the fourth quarter.
Hooks ran for 323 yards and had 122 yards passing.
Queen City quarterback Dylan Scott led the Bulldogs by completing 10 of 21 passes for 115 yards.
