Horatio fends off Genoa Central

GENOA, Ark.-Horatio scored all the points it would need in the first half to take down host Genoa Central, 27-17, on Friday night.

Trey Pickett was responsible for three of the Lions' scores. The quarterback got the visitors on the scoreboard first in the first quarter with a 1-yard touchdown run and found Hunter Griffin in the end zone on a 32-yard pass.

Just before halftime, Horatio's Parker Rowe ran in their third score from 3 yards out.

Colby Cobb scored the Dragons' first touchdown on a 7-yard run in the second quarter. Cobb rushed for 54 yards on 11 carries and running back Remington Bearden rushed 17 times for 76 yards and a touchdown. Morgan Thomas caught three passes for 28 yards.

Pickett finished on 2-of-2 passing for 32 yards and a score, while rushing for 45 yards where he found paydirt twice. Running back Kelton Turner averaged 7.2 yards per carry with his 159-yard performance on 22 carries.

Horatio will travel to face Smackover next Friday, while Genoa Central will be on the road to play against Harmony Grove.

 

De Queen 21, Hope 14

DE QUEEN, Ark.-Mack Carver caught two touchdown passes from Isaiah Williamson to help the Leopards pick up their first victory of the season as De Queen beat Hope to open up 5A-South Conference play.

Carver had touchdown receptions of 70 and 5 yards, with the game winner coming in overtime.

Hope tied the game at 14-all on Jaloni Davis' 10-yard run late in the third quarter.

Mekhi Henderson also scored for the Bobcats on a 35-yard pass from Hunter Hellums early in the game.

De Queen scored in the second quarter on Marquez Ester's 1-yard plunge.

Willamson and Carver hooked up for their long TD later in the quarter and then again after regulation had expired.
