PG overwhelms Lady Leopards

Once the momentum swung, it didn't swing back the other way.

Pleasant Grove pulled the momentum in its direction and defeated Liberty-Eylau, 25-23, 24-26, 25-16, 25-20, in a cross-town rivalry volleyball match at Hawk Gym on Friday.

Grace Pickelman paced the Lady Hawks with 14 service points, while Ella Nichols added 12.

Sydney Hopkins made 11 digs, Katie Ferguson had 11 kills, and Macey Adams had 10 digs for Pleasant Grove.

Macy Young had 18 assists, Katie Kelley made 13 assists, and Grace Pickelman had nine digs for the Hawks.

Pleasant Grove built an eight-point lead at 23-15 in the fourth set, but the Lady Leopards worked back to within four, 24-20.

Ferguson hit a tip that went for a winner to close out the match for the Hawks.

Keeley and Kayla Norris each led Liberty-Eylau with nine service points each.

Keeley Norris put down seven kills and had six blocks, Daycoria Meadows led the Leopards in kills with nine, and Tamara Norris had six blocks.

Meadows had 10 assists, Alyssa Littles made seven assists and Mariah Coleman led L-E in digs with 18.

Pleasant Grove held a 24-21 lead in the first set, but the Leopards came back to within two, 24-23. But Ferguson, a lefty, sent a cross-court kill down the right baseline to seal it for the Hawks, 25-23.

The second set featured nine ties at 1, 2, 11, 12, 13, 16, 22, 23, and 24-all. Emma Nichols served in four points to give the Hawks an early 7-2 lead.

Liberty-Eylau worked its way back into the set to knot it at 11-all with Mariah Coleman serving. Coleman served in her third point to give the Leopards a 12-11 lead.

Meadows served in the final point, and the Hawks had a hitting error to end the set. PG had 12 unforced errors in the second set compared to 11 for the Leopards.

Pickelman served in six straight points to give the Hawks a 19-10 lead in the third set. During her service, teammate Natalie Hale put down back-to-back kills.

L-E did not recover in the third, getting as close as 23-16. The set ended when Hale sent a fireball kill down the middle of the floor.
