Scrappers dispatch Badgers

NASHVILLE, Ark.-What a way to start 7-4A play.

Nashville held on to win 28-23 over Arkadelphia on Friday night in a conference opener.

Two defensive errors by the Badgers in the third inning gave the lead back to the Scrappers who had trailed by 10 after the opening stanza. The first came off of a bad snap that sent the ball over the head of Arkadelphia's punter into the end zone, where Walter Phillips fell on it for Nashville. The second came a couple minutes later, after the Scrappers forced a three-and-out, when Austin Hanson darted back a shanked punt 21 yards for a touch down.

Inclement weather aided both teams throughout the contest, resulting in five fumbles, two of which were recovered in the end zone, and the disruption of Nashville's normal quick-paced game style.

In the last quarter, Nashville fell victim to the rain in the final minutes, losing the ball on a snap for a punt that was covered up by Badger Jayson Campbell for a touchdown that cut the deficit down to 5 after Arkadelphia failed to convert the pass play.

Nashville took over with 2:20 left in the contest. Keshsawn Steward ran 10 yards on the first two plays of the drive to convert the first down, allowing the offense to take a knee to let the clock run and end the game.

Stewart ended the night as the lead rusher for the Scrappers with 25 carries for 109 yards and two touch downs on the ground. Tristen Morrisson complemented with 11 carries for 39 yards and Devay Ragland added two receptions for 60 yards.

The Badgers were led by Cannon Turner who led all rushers with 20 carries for 153 yards and contributed one touch down.

Arkadelphia's first quarter momentum started with a 40-yard FG by Gabe Goodman to make the score 7-3 to the host. A minute later KJ Terry stripped the ball from a Nashville player and darted back 22 yards on the fumble recovery. With Goodman's kick the Badger's took their first lead.

Turner scored the last goal of the first quarter on a two yard plunge, 17-7 Arkadelphia.

Steward added the final score of the half with eleven seconds left on the clock, a one yard push followed by a good kick by Jhonny Pioquinto.

Nashville increases to 4-0 on the season while Arkadelphia slips to 0-4.
