THS girls open district with win

Texas High opened District 15-5A volleyball action on a winning note, sweeping Greenville in straight sets Friday at the Tiger Center.

The Lady Tigers (16-10) won 25-23, 25-16, 25-21.

THS had several standouts against the Lady Lions. Treyaunna Rush paced the onslaught with 13 points, 12 kills, 20 assists, 11 digs and four blocks; Olivia Lower added 11 kills, nine digs and seven points; Kaitlyn Cross 11 points and 10 kills; Vicki Willis 17 points, 15 digs and four kills; Mia Wilson 19 points and nine digs; and Katelyn Jordan 15 assists and eight points.

The Tigers also won the junior varsity match, 26-24, 25-23, behind Lauren Allred's 16 points.

The Texas High ninth grade made it a clean sweep with a 25-22, 23-25, 25-14 victory. Carrigan Brush served 19 winners and Lizzie Smith 17 winners for the Tigers.

Texas High's next district match will be Tuesday at Royse City.

Two teams in the Tigers' district are ranked in the Top 25 in Class 5A, with Lindale rated No. 16 and Sulphur Springs No. 24.

 

Lions stay unbeaten

HOOKS, Texas-New Boston remained undefeated in District 14-3A volleyball action Friday with a four-set victory over homestanding Hooks.

The Lady Lions won 25-15, 22-25, 25-15, 25-23.

New Boston, ranked No. 14 in the Texas Girls Coaches Association Class 3A state volleyball poll, improve to 14-5 overall and 4-0 in district. Queen City (16-8, 3-0) was the league's only other unbeaten team going into Friday, with the Lady Bulldogs hosting Atlanta.

The Lions had several leaders against the Lady Hornets (9-17, 2-3), including Morgan McAlexander with 19 kills and four blocks; Grace Duffer 10 kills and 27 assists; Maggie Taylor 11 service points; Carlee Ratcliff 23 digs; Haley McAlexander 21 assists; and Carleigh Reeves and Tamiya Smith eight kills each.

New Boston will entertain Queen City in a key district match Tuesday.

 

Dragons sweep DeKalb

REDWATER, Texas-Redwater swept visiting DeKalb in District 14-3A action at Dragon Gym.

The Lady Dragons (15-6 overall) improved to 3-1 in district play with a 25-6, 25-13, 25-12 win.

Keeley Wilbur served 17 points for Redwater and also had 16 assists. Karlee Carmony led the Dragons at the net with 12 kills and eight blocks, Bella Fernandez contributed nine kills and Ally Walston had 14 digs.

Redwater plays at Atlanta Tuesday.
