THIS WEEK: Pleasant Grove (4-6) plays Rusk at Gladewater's Jack V. Murphy Stadium Friday at 7 p.m.
OFFENSIVE STANDOUTS: Running back Josh Roberts had four touchdowns and ran the ball 14 times for 147 yards for an average of 10.5 yards per tote. Keshawn Jones had 81 yards on 12 carries and a score. Logan Wesley had a 13-yard touchdown run. Kicker Matt Day booted on onside kick and recovered it.
DEFENSIVE STANDOUTS: Xavier Benson made four tackles, an interception, and caused a fumble. Caleb Porchia led the team with 11 stops, while Cole Lipham had four tackles and caused a fumble. Cameron Wells and Tyler Allen had one interception each. Chauncey Martin and Cannon McCrary made six stops apiece.
COACH JOSH GIBSON'S COMMENTS: "The offensive and defensive lines did a really good job controlling the line of scrimmage. We did good controlling the time of possession. It's probably as good as they have done since I have been here. Josh (Roberts) always runs hard, and he was fortunate to get the yardage and touchdowns that he did because of Keshawn Jones' and Ryan Forbes' blocking around the edge. That was probably Keshawn's best blocking game ever. But Josh was well deserving of those scores, and it was fun for us to attack that part of the field. Gladewater was giving up less than 50 rushing yards per game, and we had 334 yards. I'm really proud of them and both sides of the ball did a really great job in production.
"The team was really excited about beating Gladewater. It has given them a lot of confidence and more belief in themselves and in this playoff run. Gladewater was ranked fifth or sixth, depending on the poll, and now in two different polls we are ranked 11th in the state. We are definitely playing like a top-ten team now. We need to just keep getting better. The defense did a good job of stopping the run because Gladewater likes to run. The defense played so well that they had to change their game plan and pass more."
