Texas High girls to face Lindale

MOUNT PLEASANT, Texas-Texas High and state-ranked Lindale swept their varsity volleyball matches Friday to set up a District 15-5A first-place showdown Tuesday in the Tiger Center.

Both teams are 3-0 in district after winning their matches in straight sets Friday. The Lady Tigers (19-9) disposed of winless Mount Pleasant, 25-18, 25-17, 25-14, while Lindale (27-8) was knocking off Royse City, 25-21, 25-21, 25-16.

Lindale is ranked No. 14 in Class 5A in the Texas Girls Coaches Association state poll. Another district team, Sulphur Springs, was tied for 25th, but it is expected to fall out of the rankings after losing two matches in the past week.

Texas High had little problem taking care of last-place Mount Pleasant (0-15, 0-3). Treyaunna Rush lead THS with 12 kills, 18 assists, 14 service points and 11 digs; Kaitlyn Cross added 10 kills, 10 points and four blocks; Vicki Willis 15 digs and 13 points; and Mia Wilson 22 points.

The visiting Tigers won the junior varsity and freshmen contests to complete the sweep. THS won the JV match, 25-22, 25-13, behind Lauren Allred with 13 points, Logan Pilgreen had seven kills and Valeria Perez 15 digs.

Texas High won the ninth-grade match, 20-25, 25-10, 25-18, behind Carrigan Brush, who served 18 winners.

 

Paris sweeps Leopards

PARIS, Texas-Paris handed Liberty-Eylau its first loss in District 15-4A, beating the Lady Leopards, 25-18, 25-19, 25-8.

Tamara Norris served six winners for L-E (14-7).

Paris improves to 15-12 overall and 2-1 in district.

Liberty-Eylau's next district match is Tuesday at Pittsburg.

 

Lady Hawks open

Pleasant Grove was idle Friday, taking a day off from District 15-4A action.

The Lady Hawks (14-13 overall) are 1-0 in district following a straight-set victory over Pittsburg, 25-21, 25-11, 26-24.

Pleasant Grove host Paris North Lamar in a league match Tuesday.

 

Redwater shocks Lions

REDWATER, Texas-Redwater apparently doesn't pay much attention to state polls. The Lady Dragons faced 12th-ranked New Boston in a key District 14-3A match in Redwater's gymnasium.

It went down to wire, but the Dragons rallied and pulled off a 13-25, 20-25, 25-23, 25-16, 15-13 victory.

It was the Lady Lions' first district loss after five straight wins. Redwater (16-7), meanwhile, pulls into a three-way tie with Atlanta and Queen City for second place with 4-2 district records.

Sparking the Dragons were Ally Walston with 12 points and 28 digs, Karlee Carmony had 14 kills and six blocks, Keeley Wilbur 15 assists, Bella Fernandez 15 digs, seven kills and three aces, and Karley Morrow nine kills and 13 digs.

Grace Duffer paced the Lions (15-6) with 21 service points and 37 assists, Morgan McAlexander had 25 kills, Carleigh Reeves 11 kills, Carlee Ratcliff 31 digs, and Tamiya Smith three blocks.

On Tuesday, Redwater will host Paul Pewitt and New Boston entertains DeKalb.

 

Bulldogs sweep Brahmas

QUEEN CITY, Texas-Zoe Ebarb served in 13 points to lead Queen City to a 25-8, 25-22, 25-23 District 14-3A sweep over Paul Pewitt in varsity volleyball.

Colleen Kilgore contributed 11 points on serve, while teammate Abby Watkins finished with 10 service points.

Jacie Crocker paced the Lady Brahmas with seven service points.

 

Maud falls in five sets

SULPHUR BLUFF, Texas-Maud took Sulphur Bluff down to a decisive fifth set, but the Lady Cardinals dropped the District 17-2A match.

The host Lady Bears beat the Lady Cardinals (11-16, 3-3), 24-26, 25-16, 25-16, 15-25, 15-13.

Haley Yates led Maud in serving with 15 points and Riley Murphy added 14. Murphy also had 18 kills and four blocks and Yates 16 assists.

The Cardinals other leaders were: Makenna Jones (16 kills and two blocks); Brynn Sultz (22 digs); and Brianna Barnette (11 points, 10 digs). Margaret Ryman topped Sulphur Bluff with 12 points.

Maud plays Tuesday at James Bowie.
