L-K defeats McLeod

LINDEN, Texas-Linden-Kildare's Jacob Owen pitched a 7-inning no-hitter, striking out 10 as the Tigers defeated McLeod, 5-0 in District 17-2A baseball action Friday at Jim Grubbs Field.

Owen, a senior, flirted with a perfect game before walking a batter. The Tigers committed two errors, allowing three total base runners.

The win keeps Linden-Kildare (10-6 overall) in first place in the district race with a 9-2 mark.

The Tigers supported Owen's gem with eight hits off three Longhorn pitchers. Nic Kunze and Caleb Cunningham had two hits each for L-K, with Cunningham driving in a run. Trent Wertz added a hit and an RBI.

Other Tigers with hits included Dalton Alford, Trey "Deuce" Schuyler, and Carter Foreman. Dalton, Chase Bynum and Owen also drove in runs.

Linden-Kildare plays at Avery at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Nashville 10, Magnet Cove 0

NASHVILLE, Ark.-Nashville's Tristen Jamison pitched a 5-inning no-hitter as the Scrappers mauled Magnet Cove in Conference 7-4A action.

Jamison struck out six in the shortened by the 10-run mercy rule. Justin McKim took the loss.

Scrapper Cason Drummond led the Scrappers with two hits and Jaydon Hostetler and Ty Gordon added hits. Drummond and Hostetler drove in three runs each and Colton Patterson had an RBI.

Nashville (21-4 overall) continues to lead 7-4A with a 9-1 record.

 

James Bowie 2, Detroit 0

SIMMS, Texas-James Bowie's Evan Barron pitched a one-hitter to lead the Pirates to a 2-0 wi over Detroit.

Barron, who improved his personal record to 6-0, helped himself at the plate with a single and an RBI.

The Pirates took an early 1-0 lead before scoring another run in the fifth.

The Eagles' D.J. Jones took the loss, going the distance and allowing both James Bowie runs. He only allowed two hits over six innings.

Softball

Fouke 13, Centerpoint 2

FOUKE, Ark.-Fouke sophomore pitcher Kacey Solida pitched the Lady Panthers to the Conference 7-3A victory over the Lady Knights.

The third-place Panthers (8-3 conference) scored seven runs in the fifth inning to close the game on the 10-run mercy rule.

Fouke's next game will be Monday at home against Prescott.

Smackover and Ashdown are the top two teams in conference, with the Panthers a close third.
