Leopards earn playoff berth with win over Pittsburg

The pitching duel at H.E. Markham Park gave the fans more than they bargained for.

Liberty-Eylau shut out Pittsburg in their District 15-4A match on the diamond in extra innings, 1-0, securing the Leopards a spot in the playoffs.

Marzavin Riles hit a walk-off single for L-E in the bottom of the ninth inning with two outs, driving in Nate Moore with the winning run.

Riles led the Leopards at the dish going 3 for 5 with three singles and a RBI.

Ben Witterstaetter received the win on the bump for the Leopards. Witterstaetter went nine innings, gave up eight hits and walked none.

Witterstaetter also went three innings where he didn't throw more than 10 pitches in the inning, showcasing the Leopards' defensive prowess behind him.

John Baxter held his own for the Pirates through eight innings, keeping the Leopards scoreless and only giving up nine hits.

Blake Carter finished the night going 2 for 4 for the Leopards, adding two singles, while teammate Nate Moore went 2 for 3 with two singles and scored the winning run.

Drew Langford added a double for L-E and teammate Ethan Brooks clipped a single.

Liberty-Eylau made multiple defensive plays at the plate, erasing potential Pirate runs.

Blake Carter swatted in two singles for the Leopards and teammate Matthew O'Neal added a single.

Jake Jackson led the Pirates at the dish, going 3 for 4 with a double and two singles.

Chris Garcia, Cam Layton and Neph Mancillia each contributed singles for the Pirates.
