TEXARKANA, Texas Pleasant Grove's volleyball team has the poise, work ethic and confidence to make a great run this season.

"I have been impressed with the hard work the team has put in over the off season," Lady Hawks' head coach Amy Collvins said. "They have come along really far and are jelling well together. We have three seniors and a lot of juniors; the juniors have played together for a long time. They know each other and that helps with communication and the flow of the game."

The senior leaders are outside hitter Georgia Cobb, middle blocker Rachael Leach and defensive specialist Bre Jones.

"Georgia has played varsity before but was out for most of the season last year," Collvins said. "She is looking good for having been released just three months ago.

"Rachael has improved and is coming off an injury. It's crazy how hard she has worked. She has put a lot of time into it and is a good senior leader. Bre is really fast and she is going to give volleyball a whirl. She sat out last season."

Juniors include defensive specialist Ella Nichols, outside hitter and setter Katie Ferguson, defensive specialist and right side hitter Alley Grace Harjo, defensive specialist and setter Macy Young, defensive specialist Abby Davidson and right side hitter Abby Yowell.

"Ella and Macy are my two strongest back row players," Collvins said. "Ella is looking strong at the libero position."

Pleasant Grove has four sophomores on the roster in middle blockers Harleigh O'Neal and Sarah Hale, setter and right side hitter Hallie Lipham and right side hitter Lexie Snyder.

Two freshmen are on the roster in setter and right side hitter Mackenzie Williams and defensive specialist Adi Koller.

"There is a lot of energy in this group and it makes the practices a lot of fun," Collvins said. "They bring positive vibes and encouragement. This group plays as a unit; they are one huge family.

"I have a lot of faith in this team and expect us to be competitive against any team we step on the court with. We aren't dominant on offense or defense, but we are a great, all-around team that is only going to get better."

Becca Collom and Paige Grey are the assistant coaches.
