Spikers' tourney jumps off today: Redwater dusts off courts to welcome 12 teams

REDWATER, Texas - Volleyball is back for the season and tournaments abound.

Teams are getting back into the rhythm of play, and 12 teams will descend upon Redwater High School to compete in the Redwater Spikers' volleyball tournament.

James Bowie, Redwater junior varsity, Atlanta and Hooks are in Pool A, while Daingerfield, Liberty-Eylau, Queen City and Hughes Springs are Pool B. Pool C rounds out the competition with Columbia Christian, Paul Pewitt, Redwater and Linden-Kildare.

Each team will play three matches on Thursday, which from the results will set the challenger and championship brackets.

In the old gym, James Bowie takes on Redwater jayvee at 8 a.m., Atlanta goes up against Hooks at 9, Atlanta plays Redwater jayvee at 10, Redwater JV tussles with Hooks at 11, James Bowie goes up against Hooks at 12, and James Bowie tangles with Atlanta at 1.

In the new gym, Liberty-Eylau plays Daingerfield at 8 a.m. and that match is followed by Queen City and Hughes Springs at 9. At 10, Daingerfield goes up against Queen City, L-E and Hughes Springs battle at 11, Daingerfield goes against Hughes Springs at noon, and L-E takes on QC at 1 p.m.

The action in the new gym continues with Columbia Christian and Paul Pewitt at 2, Redwater and Linden-Kildare follow at 3, and Redwater clashes with Columbia Christian at 4. Paul Pewitt tangles with L-K at 5, Columbia Christian plays Linden-Kildare at 6, and Redwater takes on Paul Pewitt at 7.

The tournament continues Saturday with bracket play in both the old and new gyms from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The event culminates with the championship games of the title and challengers brackets at 4 p.m. in the new and old gyms, respectively.
