Lady Leopards take tourney title

REDWATER, Texas - Liberty-Eylau went undefeated in the annual Redwater Spikers Classic to capure the title by defeating Redwater, 25-21, 25-22, in the Championship Bracket game Saturday.

Atlanta defeated Hughes Springs, 25-19, 25-19, to capture third place.

In the Challengers Bracket, Queen City came out on top with a 25-23, 21-25, 25-18 victory over Columbia Christian.

James Bowie won the third place game, 25-16, 25-14, over Redwater's junior varsity.

In some earlier Champioinship Bracket games, Redwater defeated Atlanta, 2-1, L-E downed Hooks, 2-0, Atlanta defeated Paul Pewitt, 2-0, and Hughes Springs defeated Hooks, 2-0.

Championship title game

Liberty-Eylau 2, Redwater 0

Redwater, who came into the title game with an 8-0 record, gave Liberty-Eylau quite a battle but the Lady Leopards (6-2) were able to hold on for the victory.

Redwater was unable to overcome an early L-E lead, as the Leopards jumped out to an early 9-2 lead with Tanner Robb serving for most of the points.

The Lady Dragons kept chipping away at L-E's lead, and eventually tied the game, 16-16, and 17-17.

Liberty-Eylau was only ahead, 21-20, before the Leopards scored four of the last five points for a 25-21 victory. Daycoria Meadows ended the game with a kill.

L-E again took an early lead in the second game, 6-3, but it was short-lived.

Redwater reeled off six straight points with Bella Fernandez serving to grab the lead, 9-6.

The Leopards responded with five straight points to regain the lead, 11-9.

Redwater soon tied the game, 11-11, and the teams were still tied at 17-17.

The Dragons soon took the lead, and were up, 21-18, before L-E tied it again, 21-21, and 22-22.

The senior Meadows then took over, leading L-E to victory with three straight points for a 25-22 victory to claim the title.

 

Third Place game

Atlanta 2, Hughes Springs 0

The first game was close, 12-11, before Atlanta reeled off seven straight points for a 19-11 advantage, and maintained its big lead for a 25-19 victory.

The second game was also close, but a late run by Atlanta stretched its lead, 21-14, and held on for another 25-19 win.
