MOUNT PLEASANT, Texas-The undefeated stayed that way.
Mount Pleasant Chapel Hill rolled past New Boston, 80-38, in a Class 3A regional quarterfinal basketball playoff game at Willie Williams Gym on Monday.
It had been 24 years since New Boston had been to a quarterfinal.
"We had a great season, and we have a special group," Lady Lions head coach Michael Hill said. "I will have all of my players back so I am looking forward to that. This was a huge step for the team to get to this stage. They've done a great job all year."
The Lady Devils (34-0) built a lead and kept it throughout the game. New Boston never led and was outscored in each quarter.
New Boston (21-13) had its most productive quarter in the third, nearly keeping up to Chapel Hill's scoring.
Chloe Davis, Maggie Taylor, Tamiya Smith, Grace Duffer, and Carlee Ratcliff each scored in the third for the Lions.
Despite New Boston's great effort, Chapel Hill put the game out of reach with a 27-point lead going into the final stanza.
Carleigh Reeves, who hit two shots from 3-point land in the fourth, paced the Lions with 10 points. Mason Garrett had a game-high 25 points, including five shots from downtown, for the Devils.
Chapel Hill shot 53 percent from the field on 26-of-49 shooting, while New Boston connected on 11 of 36 shots for 31 percent.
The Lions turned the ball over 28 times, and the Devils had 15 turnovers. Chapel Hill outrebounded New Boston, 26-20.
After Chapel Hill took an 11-2 lead in the first quarter, New Boston put together a 7-0 rally to make it a 2-point game. Maggie Taylor hit a chip shot, Reeves drove in for a layup, and Taylor hit another short-range shot.
The Devils finished the first on their own 7-0 rally to take an 18-9 lead.
Reeves started off the scoring in the second for the Lions with a chip shot off a Carlee Ratcliff pass.
New Boston went stale after Reeves' basket and would not score any more points in the second.
Chapel Hill went on a 17-0 run and jogged into the locker room with a 24-point lead.
