Lady Hawks pillage Pirates

PITTSBURG, Texas-Shanequa Henry set the nets on fire with 29 points, and Pleasant Grove stomped Pittsburg, 74-45, in a district game on Friday.

Keshawn Davis scored 11 points, and teammate Asia Lloyd added 10 for the Lady Hawks.

Hallie Lipham paced Pleasant Grove's junior varsity with 11 points, and the Hawks throttled the Lady Pirates, 36-12.

 

Waskom 35, Hughes Springs 28

HUGHES SPRINGS, Texas-Brianna Morrow scored a team-high seven points, but the Lady Mustangs were edged by the Lady Wildcats in a District 15-3A game.

Sakiya Simmons contributed six points for Hughes Springs.

The Mustangs host Elysian Fields at 6 p.m. on Tuesday.

 

McLeod falls on road

CLARKSVILLE, Texas-Clarksville stayed unbeaten in District 15-2A play with a 48-35 victory over visiting McLeod.

Clarksville (16-9 overall) stays atop the league standings at 6-0 while McLeod (17-12) falls to 4-2 in district. Laquesha Clark led the Lady Tigers with 17 points, making 9-of-17 free throws.

McLeod got 12 points from Kaitlyn Cross and 11 from Gracie Lance 11.

The Lady Longhorns play at Linden-Kildare on Tuesday.

Hawks force Pirates to run aground

PITTSBURG, Texas-Dre Robinson could not be stopped as he scored 18 points, and Pleasant Grove rolled past Pittsburg, 59-46, in a District 15-4A basketball game on Friday.

Kam Woods contributed 11 points for the Hawks.

 

Dragons stop New Boston

REDWATER, Texas-Redwater ran its District 14-3A record to 3-1 with a 67-58 victory over visiting New Boston Friday night.

The Dragons (12-11 overall) had three double-figure scorers in Parker Gravitt (24 points), Gabe Menah (20) and Mason Robertson (11). Robertson hit on three 3-pointers.

New Boston (1-3 district) was paced by Jamin Powell with 25 points and Bishop Fields with 15.

Redwater also won the junior varsity game, 36-17, with Kaden Bowen scoring eight points for the winners and Ian Cross tallying seven for the losers.

The Dragons' next district game will be at home Tuesday against Paul Pewitt.

 

Soccer

LONGVIEW, Texas-Pleasant Grove dropped a 1-0 decision to Hallsville on second-day action Friday the Pine Tree High School Showcase tournament.

The Lady Hawks' junior varsity also suffered a 1-0 loss to John Tyler's JV.

Pleasant Grove's varsity will face host Pine Tree at 4 p.m. today in the Showcase at Pirate Stadium. The Hawk JV will battle Jacksonville at 12:30 p.m. today at Pine Tree's Auxiliary Stadium.

Mustangs stampede Waskom

HUGHES SPRINGS, Texas-Hughes Springs jumped out to a 39-23 halftime lead and rode the 1-2 punch of Chandler King and Devin Flournoy to defeat Waskom, 73-40, in District 15-3A action Friday.

King popped in 22 points and Flournoy added 20 to lead the Mustangs (10-12, 2-6). Cameron Johns also had 10 points for the victors.

Waskom was paced by 6-3 senior Lamontre Stephens with 16 markers.

Hughes Springs' next district game is at home Tuesday against Ore City.
