Liberty-Eylau High School standout basketball player Howard Barron signed his letter of intent to play basketball for East Texas Baptist University on Tuesday.

Barron was a three-year varsity letterman for the Leopards and graduated in May. Barron, a 6-footer, played forward for L-E, but will mostly likely play shooting guard for the Tigers.

"ETBU is getting a good student-athlete," Liberty-Eylau head coach Stasik Vaughn said. "Howard has never gotten a call from a teacher and, basketball wise, he has a great motor. He is easy to coach.

"The Tigers are getting a heckuva ball player. If he were taller, he would have been more heavily recruited. Howard is fun to be around and is a perfectionist. He can drive the lane from the right side and cross over to the left. He likes going left and is good at it."

Barron plans on majoring in business management. Howard is the son of Patricia Barron.
