Lady Backs relentless on road

HOT SPRINGS, Ark.-Arkansas High's Jordyn Standley pitched a five-inning no-hitter to lead the Lady Backs to a 16-0 Conference 5A-South victory Friday over Hot Springs.

Standley, a sophomore, struck out 10 and walked three over the game called early because of the 10-run mercy rule. She aided her cause with a double and two RBI. Kailey Burns and Erin Wherry had a double each for Arkansas High.

The Lady Backs' next scheduled game is March 25, hosting Fouke.

 

Hooks 3, Atlanta 2

ATLANTA, Texas-Lexie Frachiseur scattered eight hits in seven innings, and Hooks nipped host Atlanta in District 14-3A play.

Frachiseur had six strikeouts in the complete game for the Lady Hornets, and Emma Farquar led the team's 10-hit attack with three singles. Karlee Clark and Sidney Pardue added two hits each for Hooks, which took a 3-0 lead in the third and held off the Lady Rabbs late.

Ashdown 4, Bismarck 2

ASHDOWN, Ark.-The Lady Panthers and Lady Lions squared off in what was a hotly contested game.

Ashdown proved to be a little too much for the Lady Lions this time around, picking up a narrow victory on the strength of a well pitched outing from Angelina McGinn. McGinn went coast to coast with a complete game, allowing 4 hits while striking out 3.

Aleya Hill was 2 for 3 with 2 singles and 2 RBI, Adaysia Thompson had a bunt single along with a sac fly with an RBI, and Blair Gentry went 1 for 3 with an RBI single.

Audrey Kizzair had 2 singles for Bismarck. Delilah Johnson went 5 innings, giving up 4 runs and 7 hits while picking up the loss.

Ashdown plays Horatio next Friday at home beginning at 4:30 p.m.

 

DeKalb 4, Queen City 2

DeKALB, Texas-DeKalb scored two late runs to beat Queen City in girls softball action.

The Lady Bears' MaKaila Daniels scattered four hits over seven innings, striking out five and not walking a batter.

The Lady Bulldogs' Kaci Thomas took the loss, giving up four runs on two hits over six innings. She fanned eight and didn't walk anyone.

DeKalb took the lead for good in the bottom of the fifth inning when Kaelynn Alvarez grounded out, driving in the go-ahead run.

Queen City was led offensively by Hannah Fitts, who had two hits in three at-bats.

 

L-K drubs Pirates

SIMMS, Texas-Linden-Kildare built an 8-0 lead and coasted to a five-inning, 13-3 victory over host James Bowie Friday in varsity baseball action.

The Tigers hit two homers, one a 3-run blast by Nick Kunze and a solo shot by Trey Schuler. Kunze added a single and Dalton Alford had two singles.

Witt Rogers had a single to drive in two runs and Noah Woodruff added a single for the Pirates. Casey Braley (1-1) was the losing pitcher.
