Pleasant Grove romps past Paris, 9-0

Pitching performance wins out most every time.

Pleasant Grove rolled past Paris, 9-0, in a District 15-4A baseball game at Hawk Field on Friday.

Senior Ryan Galvan threw 64 pitches to earn the win. Galvan struck out nine, did not walk a batter, gave up two hits, and hit one to lead the Hawks (11-3, 2-0) to the shutout.

"Ryan has been one of our top arms this year," Pleasant Grove head coach Riley Fincher said. "He fills up the strike zone and gives our team a chance to win."

Marshall Oubre tossed two innings in relief, struck out five, threw 30 pitches, gave up a hit, and walked one.

Tucker Anderson crushed a 3-run homer to left center to put the Hawks up 5-0 in the third. The round-tripper scored Jackson Cobb, who waked, and Keaton Russo, who singled.

"Tucker's big home run gave us a spark," Fincher said. "We had five hits, but we had a lot of walks and hit-by-pitches. It's good to see different players step up each game."

Parker Twisdale smacked an RBI double to left to give Pleasant Grove a 6-0 lead after three innings.

Ben Harmon hit a long ball that bounced off the wall in left center. Harmon doubled, moved up to third on a short throw from the outfield, and scored on a throwing error to give Pleasant Grove a 7-0 lead in the fourth.

Cobb singled to right field and scored on Seth Hopkins' fielder's choice to pad the Hawk lead, 8-0, going into the top of the fifth.

Hopkins reached on a fielder's choice, got to second on a wild pitch, was moved to third on Marshall Cox's sacrifice fly to center, and scored on a balk to pad PG's lead, 9-0, in the sixth.

Harmon, walked, stole second, and moved up to third on a wild pitch. Harmon scored when the catcher threw to second trying to catch Jackson Cobb stealing.

Cobb scored on an error to make it 2-0 in Pleasant Grove's favor after the first frame.

Galvan struck out the side in the second inning.

Jared Glover came in to close the game in the seventh inning. Glover struck one out and walked one. The Paris runner was caught stealing for the final out of the game.
