THS falls at home

Texas High saw its District 15-5A lead slip away with a 5-2 loss to Mount Pleasant in varsity baseball action Friday on the Tiger diamond.

The visiting Tigers remain unbeaten in district at 3-0 while Texas High falls to 2-1.

With no score in the top of the third inning, MP second baseman Colby Hunnicutt walked, followed by left fielder Tyke Fluellen's double to right. Pitcher KalebThompson scored Hunnicutt on a sacrifice fly to right field, with Fluellen advancing to third on the play. Shortstop Brock Cooter belted a single up the middle to score Fluellen, staking the visiting Tigers to a 2-0 lead.

The score remained the same until the top of the sixth inning when Mount Pleasant tacked on three runs. Connor Allred replaced Cameron Radney on the mound for THS. The visiting Tigers used three singles and a walk to plate Logan Dunn, Tyler Luck and Taylor Nelson, upping their lead to 5-0.

Texas High rallied in the bottom of the sixth. A two-out walk by Allred started the frame and Rian Sellers doubled him home. Jackson Halter then doubled to score the Sellers. Connor Allen pinch ran for Halter and advanced to third on a balk, but was left stranded.

MP threatened with no outs and two runners on in the top of the seventh, but the hosts prevailed.

In the bottom of the seventh, the host Tigers were able to cut into the MP's lead. Two strikeouts and a pop-up to third baseman Colby Hunnicutt ended the game 5-2.

Radney took the loss for host Texas High, giving up two runs on two hits. He struck out two and walked three. Allred allowed three runs on four hits, striking out three and walking two in his relief appearance.
