Three diamond playoffs on tap today

Three of the four area playoff series begin today.

Hughes Springs-the lone area softball team remaining in the postseason-begins its Region II-3A semifinal series against Emory Rains at 6 p.m. The entire series will be held at Whitehouse High School. Game 2 is set for 6 p.m. Friday, and if a third game is needed, it will be played at 2 p.m. Saturday.

The winner between the Lady Mustangs (32-4-1) and Lady Wildcats (28-1) faces either Bells or Harmony in the regional final next week with a state tournament berth on the line.

Atlanta's baseball team clashes with White Oak in its best-of-3 regional quarterfinal series opener at 6 p.m. today. The series is set for Gary High School, and Game 2 will be at 6 Friday. If a third game is needed, it is scheduled for noon Saturday.

The winners between the Rabbs (17-7-1) and Roughnecks (21-8-1) move on to next week's regional semifinals against either Van Alstyne or Pottsboro.

James Bowie and Maud, which finished second and third, respectively, in 17-2A, start their regional quarterfinal series at 7 tonight at Texas High's Tiger Field. The Pirates (14-4) and Cardinals (13-8) will play Game 2 at 5 p.m. at Tiger Field, and if the teams split the first two games, a rubber game will begin after a brief intermission.

The James Bowie-Maud winner faces either Cushing ot Shelbyville in the regional semifinals next week.

Linden-Kildare's series against Rivercrest at Northeast Texas Community College begins Friday with two games.
