Trinity Christian remains unbeaten

MAGNOLIA, Ark. - Trinity Christian's boys ran their record to 3-0 with a 75-47 win over host Columbia Christian Academy Friday.

Alex Cobb led the Warriors with 19 points and three rebounds and Rashard Jones added 13 points.

Columbia Christian won the girls game, 51-37. Trinity Christian was led by Samantha Chandler with 13 points and five rebounds, Hannah Leeper added nine points and seven rebounds and Lani Lindsey three points and 13 rebounds.

The Warriors won the junior high boys game in overtime, 58-49, behind a 45-point performance by Zack Graf.

Graf also has six rebounds, and Marley Franklin added 10 points and five rebounds.

Trinity Christian will host Ouachita on Tuesday.

 

Volleyball

District 14-3A playoff

DEKALB, Texas - Redwater clinched second, Hooks third and Atlanta fourth in a three-team playoff to decide the District 14-3A volleyball seedings.

Redwater, Hooks and Atlanta tied for second place with 8-4 district records. The three teams played a two-match tiebreaker Friday at DeKalb High School.

Redwater defeated Hooks in the first match, 26-24, 25-17. Hooks rebounded and beat Atlanta, 28-26, 22-25, 25-17.

New Boston (32-8 overall), ranked 23rd in the Texas Girls Coaches Association's Class 3A state poll, went through district unblemished with a 12-0 mark to clinch its second straight league title and third in four years. The Lady Lions went 11-1 in district last season.

Bi-district matchups set for Tuesday include: New Boston vs. Paris Chisum, Redwater vs. Mount Vernon, Hooks vs. Commerce, and Atlanta vs. Prairiland.

 

Redwater 2, Hooks 0

Hooks dropped a 2-0 decision to Redwater in Friday's first match, forcing the playoff with Atlanta.

Redwater was led by Bella Fernandez with 10 kills and 10 digs, Sydney Hornbuckle had eight kills, Ally Walson 10 digs and Kyndal Missildine nine digs. Ashton Holland added 13 assists and Cooper Frachiseur 10.

Hooks leaders included Emma Farquhar with nine kills, nine digs and 3 points, Abby Russ had 18 digs, five kills and three points, Alley Jefferson eight points and seven digs, Sydney Duncan 10 digs, Lexie Frachiseur four blocks, two kills, Alyssa Whitten eight assists and five digs and Eva Johnson six assists.

 

Hooks 3, Atlanta 0

The Hornets' leaders against Atlanta were: Johnson (11 service points, nine assists, five digs), Jefferson (10 digs, eight points), Emma Farquhar (15 digs, seven kills), and Frachiseur (nine kills, eight blocks, six digs).

Hailey Sutton added seven blocks, Russ five kills and 21 digs, and Whitten 10 assists and six digs.

 

Lions champs

New Boston continued its district dominance this year, with coach Haylee Houston leading the way.

"I've been very pleased with the way we've been playing," coach Houston said. "We've got six seniors and six juniors on this team and they're playing with experience, maturity and talent. They've been playing together for a number of years now and I'm anxious to see where we go from here.

"I'm excited about the playoffs and the girls are looking forward to moving to the next round."

 

Avery finishes 12-0

AVERY, Texas - Avery's Lady Bulldogs put the finishing touches on an undefeated District 17-2A run with a straight-set victory over Detroit.

Avery (12-0 district) won 25-17, 25-20, 25-20.

The Bulldogs were led by Carley Westbrook with 17 service points and two blocks, Emily Lamon had 15 kills, Julianna Burkett 17 assists and Jaycee Clark 19 digs.

The league-champion Bulldogs now receive two byes in the opening rounds of the Class 1A state playoffs.
