Thirteen area, local teams make playoffs

Thirteen football teams, including three local schools, begin their postseasons this week.

Arkansas High and Pleasant Grove will host playoff games in the first round, and Texas High goes on the road to Lufkin to play the Panthers. Kickoff for the Tigers is set for 7 p.m. in their Class 5A, Division I bi-district game.

The Razorbacks host Maumelle in a Class 5A first round game at 7 p.m. Friday. The Hawks host Nevada Community in a Class 4A, Division II bi-district game at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Hawk Stadium.

Hooks faces Winnsboro in a Class 3A, Div. I bi-district game at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Pittsburg High School, and Hughes Springs squares off against Gladewater in a 3A, Div. I bi-district game at 7:30 Friday at Pine Tree High School.

Paul Pewitt travels to Corrigan for its Class 3A, Division II bi-district game to play Corrigan-Camden at 7:30 p.m. Friday.

In a Class 2A, Div. II bi-district matchup, James Bowie plays Cumby at 7:30 Friday at Mount Pleasant High School.

In the Arkansas state playoffs, with all kickoffs set for 7 p.m. on Friday, Nashville hosts Rivercrest in a Class 4A game.

In the Class 3A playoffs, Prescott is home to Charleston, and Genoa Central makes its first postseason appearance, playing at Harding Academy.

In Class 2A, Foreman is home against Marked Tree Friday; Dierks travels to Hackett; and Mineral Springs plays at Magazine.
