Area sports: PG defeats Mount Vernon on the road in four sets

MOUNT VERNON, Texas - Pleasant Grove needed a fourth set to dispose of Mount Vernon, 25-20, 25-21, 23-25, 25-18.

Katie Ferguson led the Lady Hawks with nine kills and 12 assists. Ella Nichols had 10 kills, and Georgia Cobb added nine kills.

Macy Young had 12 assists and 11 service winners for PG, and Lexi Snyder served 11 points.

Pleasant Grove won the junior varsity, 25-10, 25-21, but the Hawk freshmen fell, 25-19, 25-18.

 

Lady Bulldogs rally past James Bowie

AVERY, Texas - Taylor Williams fired in 20 service points and put down 16 kills to lead Avery past James Bowie, 25-11, 20-25, 25-21, 25-8.

Briana Bridges had 17 assists, while teammate Emily Lamon spiked in 14 kills for the Lady Bulldogs.

Chloe Caddenhead paced the Lady Pirates with 10 service points. Jaycee Littleton had six kills, Emily Latham made eight assists, and Sarah Bruce had eight digs for James Bowie.

Marisola Cortez served in eight points, and Avery won the junior varsity match, 26-24, 25-21.

The Bulldogs are 2-0 in district and play at Detroit at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.

 

Detroit goes 3-0 against Maud

MAUD, Texas - Lanie Lee served in six points for Maud, but Detroit swept the Lady Cardinals, 25-12, 25-15, 25-19.

Brynn Sultz had 14 digs, three blocks and a pair of kills for Maud, while teammate Lee added eight kills and a team-high 20 digs.

The Lady Eagles won the junior varsity A match, 25-19, 25-21. Alivia Carrell slapped in 10 service points for the Cardinals.

Detroit went on to a 25-15, 25-22 sweep in the junior varsity B contest. Katie Carrell had six service points for Maud.

 

Lady Brahmas outlast Lady Bears in thriller

OMAHA-NAPLES, Texas - Calli Osmon and Destiny Jones each put down 17 kills to lift Paul Pewitt over DeKalb, 23-25, 25-11, 18-25, 25-23, 15-10.

Natalie Tucker had five key kills for the Lady Brahmas, while teammate Kailyn Jones had 27 assists and 25 digs.

Jacie Crocker paced Paul Pewitt with 19 service points. Crocker made 17 assists, Mya Heath had 20 digs, and Osmon added 15 digs and 12 service points.

Abbi Matteson led the Lady Bears with 14 service points, and DeKalb won the junior varsity A match, 25-16, 25-15.

Hally Taylor served up six points for Paul Pewitt.

Hannah Widemon smacked in 17 service points as DeKalb's junior varsity B squad defeated the Brahmas, 25-14, 25-8.

Makenzie Stewart had five points for Paul Pewitt.

The Brahmas host Atlanta on Friday.

 

Tennis

Tigers romp past Wildcats

TEXARKANA, Texas - Texas High's varsity tennis team made it look easy as they defeated Sulphur Springs, 18-1, on Tuesday at the John Watson tennis courts.

The Tigers are 9-0 and play in Tyler, Texas, on Sept. 28.

 

Hogs win, Lady Backs fall

EL DORADO, Ark. - Arkansas High's varsity boys tennis team defeated El Dorado, 4-1.

The Hogs are 9-2-1 on the season and 5-1 in conference play.

The Lady Backs fell to the Lady Wildcats, 4-0.
