Leopards churn, but victory eludes them on road

SULPHUR SPRINGS, Texas - Liberty-Eylau made the most of its neutral site non-district clash Friday night, but ultimately Argyle was too much.

The Leopards (0-5) fell to the Eagles (4-0) at Gerald Prim Stadium on the campus of Sulphur Springs High School, 63-42.

"I told these kids from the very get-go that I wasn't going to stop fighting for them," Liberty-Eylau coach Klint King said." We're never going to lay down. We're going to do everything we can every day to win."

Alex Gonzalez caught his third touchdown of the night on a 39-yard pitch with 8:50 left in the contest.

T.J. Templeton sliced into the Argyle lead with a 59-yard dash to the pylon, with 5:46 left in the contest to make the score 56-35.

Ian Jones broke 49 yards through the Eagles defense for a Leopard score with 5:24 left in the game after a Leopard onside kick.

Tito Byce scored his second touchdown of the game on a 4-yard plunge with 3:32 left in the game, giving Argyle a 63-42 cushion.

Luke Farris scored on a 38-yard dash for the Eagles on their first possession of the second half to give Argyle a two-score advantage, 42-28.

Cade Merka caught a 38-yard pass from Bo Hogeboom to give the Eagles a three-score edge over the Leopards, 49-28.

"I believed we turned a corner after the second half of last week's game," King said. "We're starting to show some good signs. We showed a little more tonight of how good we can be."

Gonzalez caught two touchdown passes in the second quarter from Hogenboom for the Eagles from 19 and 23 yards.

On their first drive in the second quarter, Korbyn White went 75 yards to give the Leopards a 7-0 lead.

After a L-E turnover on downs, Cole Kirkpatrick caught a 80-yard bomb from Hogeboom to tie the game at 21-all with 7:50 before intermission.

White snagged his second touchdown of the half on a 24-yard strike in the corner of the end zone from Shannon Roy with 4:18 left in the half.

Byce tied the game for Arygle on his 4-yard dive in the end zone with 3:24 left before halftime.

Trey Revels intercepted the Eagles pass on the first play of the game.

Henderson put the Leopards on the board first after his 29-yard dash to the corner pylon on the Leopards' fourth play of the game.

Semaj Rose intercepted an Argyle pass and went 77 yards for another Leopard score.

Liberty-Eylau sat on Arygle's screen plays, deflecting three consecutive passes on the Eagles third drive.

The Leopards will host La Vega on Friday for homecoming at Harris Field.
