Angels rally for 10-4 victory over Astros

HOUSTON-Kole Calhoun had three hits and two RBIs, and the Los Angeles Angels scored nine runs in the final two innings to rally for the second straight game in a 10-4 victory over the Houston Astros on Saturday night.

It's the third straight victory in this series for the Angels, who scored six runs in the ninth inning on Friday night to win 10-6.

It was another costly loss for the Astros, who fell to three games behind Baltimore for the second AL wild card.

Albert Pujols, Mike Trout and C.J. Cron each added two RBIs for Los Angeles.

The Angels tacked on five runs in an embarrassing ninth for the Astros. The last run in that inning scored when Jose Altuve made a bad throw for an error to reliever Pat Neshek, who was covering first base, and Neshek tripped over the base and fell face first to the dirt.

George Springer had four hits and an RBI and for the Astros, who had won 11 straight over the Angels before this skid.

Houston led by two in the seventh before an RBI triple by Springer. Yuli Gurriel followed with a run-scoring single to make it 4-1 before Los Angeles rallied once again.

CARDINALS 10, CUBS 4

CHICAGO-The St. Louis Cardinals have a lot to accomplish if they want to return to Chicago in two weeks for a rematch of last year's NL Division Series. They would have to qualify for one of the wild-card spots, then win the single-elimination playoff game.

If they do, the Cardinals may be the one club that won't be fazed by Wrigley Field and the Cubs.

Yadier Molina drove in four runs, Stephen Piscotty homered and the Cardinals boosted their playoff hopes by getting to Jason Hammel early in a 10-4 rout of Chicago on Saturday.

Randal Grichuk added three RBIs and Jhonny Peralta had three hits and scored three runs for the Cardinals, who stopped a two-game skid and moved into a tie with San Francisco for the final NL wild-card spot pending the Giants' game at San Diego.

"It's been a difficult year for us, up and down, but we got a good win and a lot of base hits," said Molina, who extended his hitting streak to 10 games. "Hopefully, we can continue it."

ROYALS 7, TIGERS 4

DETROIT-With their playoff hopes fading fast, the Kansas City Royals showed some fight.

Paulo Orlando hit a tying, two-run double and Eric Hosmer followed with a three-run homer against Francisco Rodriguez, capping a ninth-inning comeback that led the Royals over the Detroit Tigers 7-4 Saturday.

Kansas City stopped a four-game losing streak, and its tragic number for elimination from postseason contention remained at three. The Royals would be the fourth straight World Series champion failing to reach the playoffs after winning a title the previous season.

Given a 4-2 lead, Rodriguez (3-4) allowed singles to Alex Gordon and Hunter Dozier before Orlando's double. Cheslor Cuthbert walked and Hosmer hit his 24th homer.

Wade Davis (2-1) pitched a one-hit eighth and Kelvin Herrera, Kansas City's seventh pitcher, got three straight outs for his 12th save in 15 chances, ending a game that took 3 hours, 50 minutes. Rodriguez blew a save for the fifth time in 49 opportunities.
