Bulldogs fall to Outlaws in 17-9 loss

LEAGUE CITY, Texas-Pecos kept the Guaranty Bank and Trust Texarkana Bulldogs scoreless for five straight innings and cruised to a 17-9 victory at Clear Creek's Mallory Field in a first round American Legion state tournament game.

Pecos got on the board in the first inning. After a walk, back-to-back singles loaded the bases with one out, and the first run of the game was walked in. After another walk, the Outlaws had a 2-0 lead.

Jared Roberts got out of the bases loaded jam by striking out the next two batters. He finished with seven K's in five innings of work, six walks, and one hit batsman.

A.J. Snyder greeted the Outlaws pitcher with a double to left center. Snyder stole third and scored on a sacrifice fly to right by Triston Brooks.

Down 2-1, the Bulldogs took a one run lead after the second frame. Jacoby Ross landed on first after a fielder's choice and stole second. Connor Morton reached on an error and stole second.

Logan Overmyer smacked a 2-run single to center to score Ross and Morton. It would be the last runs for Texarkana until the eighth frame.

The Bulldogs faced a 13-run deficit going into the bottom of the eighth, but fought for six runs.

Kyrian Williams slapped a single to left center with one out to get the rally started. Kyle Choate was hit by a pitch as was the next batter, Jacoby Ross. With the bases loaded, Overmyer walked and Williams scored.

Snyder walloped a 2-run double to centerfield and after Lavert Paxton walked. Brooks popped in a double to right center, and Choate, Ross, and Overmyer scored.

Both teams went down in order in the ninth stanza. Texarkana left nine on base throughout the game, while Pecos stranded 15.

The Bulldogs' pitchers walked 10 and hit two batters, while the Outlaws walked just three but hit nine batsmen.

Texarkana plays the loser of the Edinburg-League City game in an elimination today at 10 a.m.
